According to the open-source investigative project Oryx, 100 of them have either been destroyed, damaged and abandoned, or captured on the battlefields of Ukraine. With Russia's total tank losses last month surpassing 8,000, and only an estimated 67 T-90Ms in active service when Moscow launched its full-scale invasion, what does this say about the state of the Kremlin's armed forces?

Who was Iryna Farion, a nationalist prof-politician assassinated in Lviv. A linguist and former right-wing lawmaker Iryna Farion on July 19 came as a shock to Ukrainians. Sixty-year-old Farion was shot in the head by unknown assailant outside her home in western city of Lviv in what many believe to be a politically-motivated killing. While commenting on incident President Volodymyr Zelensky said on July 20 that all potential motivations behind murder are currently being investigated & that includes “the one leading to Russia. ”Farion’s “public & political activities” are believed to have been a driving force behind the assassination.

The Interior Minister Ihor Klimenko added. Farion strongly advocated for use of the Ukrainian language in Ukraine during her lifetime. Many Ukrainians praised her for encouraging Ukrainian society to sever all ties to Russian language to counter Russian influence, while others viewed her methods as polarizing. Her comments late last year that Russian-speaking Ukrainian soldiers were not “real Ukrainians” caused a huge uproar in Ukraine.

Ukraine's top diplomat to visit China this week to talk peace, Kyiv says. Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. KVIV/BEIJING — Ukraine's top diplomat will visit China on Tuesday at the invitation of Beijing for talks that Kyiv said would focus on how to end Russia's war in Ukraine and on a possible Chinese role in reaching a settlement.

Nearly 29 months since Russia's full-scale invasion, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba will discuss bilateral ties at talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a trip to China from July 23 to 25, the Ukrainian foreign ministry said.

"The main topic of discussion will be the search for ways to stop Russia's aggression and China's possible role in achieving a stable and just peace," the Ukrainian ministry said in a statement on its website. The Chinese statement said Kuleba's visit would run from July 23 to 26 and provided less detail. The trip is unusual as China is widely seen as close to the Kremlin, with which Beijing declared a "no limits" partnership in 2022 just days before Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Ukrainian forces are “total shortage” of hand-held anti-aircraft missiles & must find “new ways” to attack Russian reconnaissance aircraft armed with advanced sensors & muti-spectral cameras. As AFU General Staff (AGS) reported Russian Air Force on Monday set new numerical record with 132 glider bomb strikes against Ukrainian forces, most in support of the main Russian offensive effort toward Pokrovsk.

Camera-toting Russian drones have in past two weeks flown as much as 50 k/m into Ukrainian territory & recorded Russian long-range missile strikes in Kharkiv, Donetsk, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa regions. Ukrainian training bases, airfields, rail hubs, anti-aircraft systems, ammunition storage sites, & equipment warehouses were among the targets, Kyiv Post review of 15 videos published since July 10 showed.

Starting in Spring some Ukrainian air defenders have taken to the skies themselves aboard single-engine training planes, with the passenger armed with an automatic rifle or a shotgun, to hunt down free-flying Russian drones.

For 2-Days In A Row, Russians Hurled Tanks at Ukrainian 79th Air Assault Brigade. For Two Days, Paratroopers Held. Russians are hoping to break through to Kurakhivka. One day after sending 57 armored vehicles and a dozen bike troops on a doomed mission to break through the Ukrainian line east of the Ukrainian stronghold in Kurakhivka, in eastern Ukraine, the Russian army tried again—and with similar results. First assault, on Wed, met a synchronized defense by mines, artillery, missiles & drones belonging to elite Ukrainian 79th Air Assault Brigade. The Russians retreated, leaving behind 6-wrecked tanks, seven wrecked infantry fighting vehicles & all 12 bikes. The 79th Air Assault Brigade counted 40 dead Russians and 37 wounded ones.

A smaller assault on Thurs, involving 16 vehicles, met same layered defense, the same fate. The attackers turned around, abandoning a destroyed tank and two destroyed fighting vehicles. Twenty-three Russians finished their SVO ahead of schedule,” 79th Air Assault Brigade quipped, using Russian acronym for “special military operation”—a euphemism for Russia’s wider war on Ukraine. “Another 29 received injuries of varying severity,” Ukrainian brigade added.

In stark contrast to Avdiivka sector 20 miles to north, Russian forces are slowly pushing back disorganized Ukrainian forces, the Kurakhivka sector is becoming an attrition trap for Russians. They keep attacking, keep encountering stiff Ukrainian defenses, keep retreatingonly to repeat the bloody exercise a few days later.

The full scale of the attack was not immediately clear. Russian state news agencies reported, citing Russian fighters in Ukraine, that the attacks targeted several military airports and military warehouses across Ukraine. Air defence systems were engaged on approaches to Kyiv in the region surrounding the capital several times during the night, Popko said. Kyiv's Mayor said on Telegram the attack on city came from several directions.

Ukraine has received the first batch of fourth-generation U.S.-made F-16 jets. News comes a year after allied "fighter jet coalition" took shape at Vilnius NATO summit under Danish and Dutch leadership. The deadline for the transfer of F-16s was late July, sources told Bloomberg. Ukraine received "a small number" of the planes.

Bloomberg reported on July 31, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter. Ukraine is expected to receive at least 79 F-16s from the Netherlands, Denmark, Belgium, and Norway, with the deliveries to continue in the coming years. The fighter jet coalition also pledged to help train Ukrainian pilots & technical staff to operate jets.

Its unclear whether trained Ukrainian pilots will be able to use combat aircraft immediately or will take longer, unnamed people told Bloomberg.

"The Mig-21, you know, is aircraft of Eastern origin the flight philosophy of aircraft of Western origin is a little different. However, on Mig-21 have always flown to NATO standards. Thus, for us the transition probably much easier than it is probably going to be for pilots of other nations". Being designated "mission-ready" means pilots can now operate aircraft in their assigned squadrons. They took theory classes, trained in simulator & began flying with instructors in January. Solo flights followed, during which they simulated all kinds of combat operations... Smile

Ukrainian forces deploy more than 100,000 explosive first-person-view drones a month all along the 700-mile front line of Russia’s 28-month wider war on Ukraine. The drones smash into armored vehicles, chase down exposed infantry and follow artillery fire back to its origin in order to target Russian howitzers. And today one of the small quadcopter drones—remotely steered by an operator wearing a virtual-reality headset—shot down a Russian helicopter, apparently for the first time.

Photos and videos that circulated on social media depict the Mil Mi-8 transport helicopter burning near Donetsk in Russian-occupied eastern Ukraine. “A speedy recovery to the survivors,” one Russian blogger wrote. This new use of explosive drones has been a long time coming. As long ago as September, Ukrainian operators first tried ramming their flying robots into Russian helicopters mid-flight. The drone threat got so serious that the Russian air force began assigning some helicopters to escort other helicopters.

Ukraine has been able to strike unusually deep inside Russia because Russian air defenses have been stretched, a warfare expert told Business Insider. George Barros, a Russia expert for the Institute for the Study of War in the US, said many of Ukraine's drones were able to penetrate past the point where Russian air defenses should be able to stop them.

"We've seen numerous times where the Ukrainians have penetrated Russian air defenses and then flown aircraft that the Ukrainians really have no right to fly as deep as they have into Russia," he said. "Russian air defenses should have very easily taken them out." Russia's air defenses have been formidable opponents for Ukraine as it fights back against invasion. They've downed Ukrainian jets and missiles, largely denying Ukraine access to Russia's airspace.

Ukraine's defenses have proved their worth too, holding back Russia's much larger air force — something air-warfare experts praise as a remarkable achievement given Ukraine's disadvantage in the air. That created a situation of mutual air denial, which both sides are mostly limited to using their own aircraft in their own territory. Barros said Russia's defenses had been "stretched," giving Ukraine new opportunities
