Not only one, according to Taiwan media many fighter jets’ pilots retire early as they dunt want to get caught in potential wars across Taiwan Strait. As a result half of the F16 has no pilots…it takes 5-6 years to train a new pilot.

Not surprising, many laymen underestimate the impact EW/ELINT/AEW&C and generation gap on air battle odds.

For e.g. during GF1, both US and Iraq technically are of the same generation (4G). However with a far superior integrated command system, the Iraqi air forces were basically target practice for the Americans.

The odds of different generation planes going against each other are even wider. Both US and China have simulated a 5G vs a 4.5G fighter combat: F22 vs F15E, J20 vs J16, the results were consistent i.e. a 5G fighter will down all 4.5G fighters all the way until they run out of ammo with no losses.

Taiwanese air force pilots know their planes better than anyone else. There is basically no chance of survival with the combined advantages from integrated AEW&C and generation gap conferred to the PLAAF. The challenge for Taiwanese pilots is how to actually broadcast your surrender to the other side fast enough before your plane goes down.

Already said,  this is a common problem.  The reason of each country will vary. Why pick on Taiwan?  The paper you've shown is just a prediction that more pilots will resign by the end of the year.  Will it come true or not, good to wait for Taiwan Government to disclose,  not from any Tom.  Dick and Harry.

For information,  googling tells that Taiwan has this pilot shortage since 2011. They could never recruit enough pilots.
