The Guardian Exclusive: LHY says Singapore is no paradise
#1

"Despite the very advanced economic prosperity that Singapore has, there’s a dark side to it, that the government is repressive,” he said. “What people think, that this is some kind of paradise – it isn’t.”

Under the rule of his brother, who was prime minister for 20 years until May, Lee Hsien Yang claims the authorities used what he called baseless allegations against him, his wife and his son to bring a series of legal actions. These “escalated to the point where I believe for my own personal safety I should not continue to live in Singapore”.

In a system that brooks little dissent, a ruling elite that prides itself on its reputation for probity is rarely denounced so thoroughly – especially by one of its own."

S'pore as an extremely stressful place to live in because of our competitive environment in education and the workplace. This leads to high levels of stress for those striving for success. We are the most expensive city in the world, making it a challenge to afford housing, cars and other necessities. Financial pressures contributes to stress and anxiety. Many of us work long hours, so have limited time for leisure or relaxation, leading to burnout and work-life balance issues. The high cost of living leads to social comparison and feelings of inadequacy for those without the 5Cs. All these are happening because S'pore is overcrowded and we are burdened with a wide variety of indirect taxation.

After he got rich from the founder of Singapore, now he condemns it. Haiz

Our leaders have long maintained a facade of competence, using this to justify exorbitant salaries, exceeding those of public servants in much larger and wealthier nations. This has contributed to the growing inequality gap between the wealthiest S'poreans and those with lower incomes. The ruling party must be prevented from using secrecy and non-disclosure to instill fear in citizens, leading us to believe that constant belt-tightening is necessary to safeguard the reserves. Meanwhile, a select few manage these reserves inefficiently, seemingly benefiting from their actions.

The son of Hamas' founder is the most qualified to share his experiences and why he chose to leave this terrorist organization. LHY knows how his family benefitted from the nepotism, and now wants to expose it. I see nothing wrong.

its a toxic yet disgusting little red dot

managed by a group of self entitled people

what improvement in your life not within your control did you see?

crowded trains?

breaking down trains?

expensive food with inferior ingredients and pathetic madafaking portion?

jobs reserved for foreigners and aplenty discriminations only for the locals?

wonderful international social issues?

He had it all in Singapore.
Now he is saying Singapore is no good.
Founded by his father, highly regarded by others.
Why don't ask himself what has he contributed?
Why he needs to run away and be a refugee?

What I cannot accept his non stop whinings about Singapore is his hypocrisy.

"He enjoyed CEO $ and rumored affair in Singtel.
Rumored ask to step down by his daddy for the sake of his marriage."

Singaporean let him be to carry on his princely life out of respect to the founder.

Now come and kpkb nonstop, badmouthing Singapore. Act pitiful, wronged by Singapore law, disgraceful speech internationally.
F Him la..pui!!!

Ungrateful, spoil and stupid child of the founder. What a shame ....
LKY will denounce his relationship with him in heaven.

If he got problems with older bro, settled it with him. Go Sue, Fight him with bare hands, no Singaporean will gives a damn.
Coward!!!!! Chey!!!!

Don't use Singapore as a bogeyman and manipulate the Opposition political platform to his satisfy grudges.

UK Govt carefully considered and approved and granted him political asylum.

If you strongly feel that certain areas have been fabricated, please go ahead and take legal action against the UK Govt.

Bring it to The Int'l court @ The Hugue for arbitration

Do you know the phrase: "Missing the woods for the trees"? It means that you are focusing too much on the small details or individual elements, to the point that you lose sight of the bigger picture or overall goal. It is important to maintain a balance between attention to detail and a broader perspective here. Both Mosab Yousef and LHY were beneficiaries of a hypocritical system and spoke out against it after leaving.

The UK is also not a paradise, it is a hell after Brexit.

He and his brother should not sully the name of SG any more. Don't claim persecution just because of that stupid house. Most Singaporeans don't care what they do with it. Martyrs are those who fight for the greater good, not a stupid house.

My relatives in Malaysia are not having a good time either. S'poreans often yearn to retire or live across the Causeway, but do not consider that the cost of living is actually very high if they are earning in RM or have their money deposited in banks in Malaysia. There is also the high crime rate up north, where the fear of kidnapping, robbery, extortion, housebreaking, car theft are only too real. Except for my relatives who worked in S'pore for decades before retiring back in Malaysia, the rest do not have much savings even though they may live in landed homes and own 1-2 cars.
