The flaw of Meritocracy

Meta AI: Meritocracy, a system where rewards and advancements are based on individual merit and achievement, has several flaws:

1. Biases and discrimination: Meritocracy can perpetuate existing biases and discrimination, as those in positions of power may favor those who resemble themselves or share similar backgrounds.

2. Privilege and inequality: Meritocracy can exacerbate privilege and inequality, as those with greater resources and opportunities may have an unfair advantage in achieving success.

3. Overemphasis on individual achievement: Meritocracy can lead to an overemphasis on individual achievement, neglecting the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and collective success.

4. Ignoring systemic barriers: Meritocracy can overlook systemic barriers and structural obstacles that prevent marginalized groups from achieving success.

5. Perpetuating elitism: Meritocracy can create an elitist culture, where those who achieve success are seen as superior to others.

6. Lack of diversity and inclusion: Meritocracy can lead to a lack of diversity and inclusion, as those who don't fit the dominant culture or norms may be excluded.

7. Overlookinig privilege and luck: Meritocracy can overlook the role of privilege and luck in achieving success, assuming that individual merit is the sole determinant.

8. Creating a culture of competition: Meritocracy can foster a culture of cutthroat competition, leading to stress, burnout, and mental health issues.

9. Neglecting social and emotional intelligence: Meritocracy can prioritize intellectual achievement over social and emotional intelligence, leading to neglect of essential skills like empathy and communication.

10. Failing to address structural issues: Meritocracy can fail to address underlying structural issues, such as inadequate education or healthcare, that hinde
r individual success.

This basic philosophy to have the most skilled and driven at the top appears to be lost to most companies. In unhealthy workplaces, it is not uncommon to have workers with the best ideas overlooked for advancement while the mediocre or even underperforming employees get promoted. Insecure bosses need to have sub-standard subordinates around them. Anyone who has worked in an office has witnessed this phenomenon. An insecure leader's greatest fear is not that the business may be unsuccessful. His ultimate fear is that capable staff may be a threat to his position. Mediocre employees get promoted to higher positions because they do not pose the same threat to the paranoid boss.

It is surprising that many bosses hire deputies based more on existing personal relationships rather than qualifications. As trust is the most important driver of staff engagement, transplanting friends into senior positions without the requisite aptitude and industry experience is risky. Hiring close allies may give the impression that the boss is weak and requires a network of supporters to strengthen his position. The adverse effects on the morale of the rest of the management team and staff are far-reaching. Also, a boss' judgment and ethics are questioned when recruits lack the requisite skills, knowledge and experience, which will become apparent over time. If workers think that favouritism is at play, they will be less inclined to give their best.

Whoever sits on top can decide on the top 3 or 5 criteria and say its meritocracy.

A person carry balls and taking advantage of others weakness and kindness in order to achieve , they still consider their merits in our system. So depending on "meritocracy " system consider really beneficial to the society?
If not there must be flaw though many will argue no system is perfect. So all the more we need to be stringent and diligent in selecting true merit.

Sounds more like "self-service" than public service.

Obviously this survey doesn't understand Indo and Indi...🤣
Too bloody obvious, we can see it openly when working over there.

Ex, when you export goods. The official will tell you XXX% TAX.
But the other alternative is through a broker. USD $XXXXX, all goods can go in safely in time..🤭

Cronies are abundantly over there la...
Even in the West, Fox News vs CNN unashamedly bashing their master's political opponents.
Until Obama declared he won't vote for himself after watching Fox News 🤣🤣🤣

My understanding of crony capitalism is that it describes a capitalist economic system in which individuals and/or businesses who enjoy a close relationship with politicians and govt officials benefit from an unfair advantage in the marketplace. What you have described is ground level corruption.

In US, it is a open secret..

Lobbying is a practice performed by either individuals or organizations whereby public campaigns (which are legally registered with the government) are undertaken to pressure governments into specific public policy actions.

The legality of lobbying comes from the Constitution and from our participatory democracy.

FoxNews is Republican Party crony.
CNN is Democratic Party crony.
Both produced bias news to win votes for their master party...
Both are very rich and powerful media companies.

Big Tech Billionaires bosses are cronies of political party.

"For decades, Democrats have thrashed large pharmaceutical companies in their campaign ads and stump speeches.
The drug industry has responded — by shelling out millions to liberal candidates.

Between the 2016 and 2022 election cycles, the top 10 pharma firms gave $29 million to Democrats and just $24 million to Republicans, according to an analysis by the group Conservatives for Lower Healthcare Costs obtained by The Post."

In Indo and Indi, the currupted works with brokers that belongs to winning party.
Wherever there is a change of political party in power. The Brokers entity changes too..🤣
So you must pay the correct one..🤭

I can go on non stop talking about crony in the West and East la...

That survey you shown is actually a joke to many traders worldwide.
