......

"The modern meat chicken is unrecognisable compared to its ancestors or wild counterparts," said Carys Bennett, a geologist and lead author of a 2017 study in Royal Society Open Science laying out the evidence for the animal as a "marker species" of the Anthropocene.

"Body size, the shape of the skeleton, bone chemistry and genetics are all distinct."

Their very existence, in other words, is evidence of humanity's capacity to hack nature and intervene in natural processes.

......

The species has long been prized for its meat and eggs, but its engineered breeding into the rotund, short-lived creature found in supermarkets the world over started only after World War II.

"It usually takes millions of years for evolution to occur, but here it has taken just decades to produce a new form of animal," Jan Zalasiewicz, an emeritus professor of palaeobiology at the University of Leicester, told AFP.

First Origin:

In ancient China, prostitutes were legal, and the bosses of prostitutes in brothels were called "old bustards". A "bustard" is a bird in which the female mates with multiple males during the mating season. Since the owner of a brothel is called a "Bustard" and is a kind of bird, shouldn't the prostitutes she leads be also birds? So people naturally call them all kinds of birds, such as warblers and swallows, but there seem to be few that can match them, so people think of the most common bird-poultry! So there is a saying that prostitutes are called chickens.

Second Origin:

Homophonic. The so-called prostitutes are generally organized and belong to a certain brothel. Such prostitutes are generally not called chickens. In the old days, people called those who did not belong to a certain brothel and sold themselves alone as "wild prostitutes". There is also a niche saying: in the south, especially in Guangdong, the accent is very strong, and they call prostitutes chickens, so it has become a more commonplace name.

Third Origin:

Prostitutes generally sell their sex in the middle of the night. In order to make their customers more high, prostitutes will make the bed loudly in order to arouse men's fighting spirit and climax as soon as possible. Midnight is an obvious time feature, and the behavior of prostitutes is more like a golden rooster announcing the dawn, so the image of "chicken" vividly describes the characteristics of this profession. Chickens scream in the middle of the night.

The origin of why prostitutes come to be called "chickens"..
