That’s not important, the trade deficit in Vietnam-US trade is $123 billion, Vietnam has to make an effort to reduce it to zero to make Trump happy.

The problem is that the world depend on USA to spend so they cannot switch gear unless their own economy takes a hit. One way to stop USA's nonsense is for the world to proceed without USA, ie totally cut them out from exports and imports. But no unity is ever possible for this world.. lol

At this stage I don't even think Trump cares about nebulous things like effective tariff rates, manufacturing jobs back home and trade surpluses. He's already gone all-in i.e. risk everything including national stability and political lifespan when he messed with ordinary American's basic sustenance and rich tycoon's net worth.

The guy has a very limited period of leeway before the whole thing turns turtle. He is going to need super major wins to convince people back home his maximum pressure strategy has paid off by raiding the larders in other countries.
