If one had watch China's rational - one will understand they are fully aware of the risk - COVID can easily kill millions if "living with the virus" is adopted as they don't have the resources to handle the tidal surge of severely sick and dying with 1.4B in a largely developing country.
What happened to India in 2021 can easily happen in China - hence the later is very very determined in their dynamic Zero-COVID while remaining vigilant as the virus is always mutating..

However long covid cases could be very high.
Perhaps their CDC still try v hard to sell their vaccine,
