US defense chief: We'll help Taiwan defend itself

Under a law passed by Congress, the US is required to sell Taiwan military supplies to ensure its self-defense against Beijing's vastly larger armed forces.

The US is in a predicament currently. On one hand, all its supposed allies have shown no intention of joining them in its China containment beyond mouth flapping and the Biden administration knows that they need to do something to convince the world that China is a threat and they are still a reliable security provider.

On the other hand, the US also knows that it holds no significant advantage against China in the political, economic and military spheres and can ill afford to really blow things up with the Chinese. With no feasible way out of the current situation, they have opted for middle ground by making plenty of headlines grabbing rhetoric and actions while not doing anything of substance that could risk a real conflict.

The problem with this strategy is it might convince some layman but otherwise fall flat in persuading people who are holding actual and/or thought leadership positions all over the world. National leaders across the world are well versed in such tactics as they themselves employ plenty of them during their political office as well.

Biden and his crew are now like a CEO who cites meaningless achievements and makes fiery webcasts in company townhalls in an effort to boost employee morale. The problem though is other than some junior execs and blue collar workers who swallow such drivel, the rest of the managers and directors all know the ship is sinking and are busy sending out their CVs on LinkedIn.
