Why leaders deliberately choose to ignore COE is causing higher costs of living?

Why leaders deliberately choose to ignore COE as part of components causing higher costs of living in debate and discussion?

In fact, everyone whether rich or poor is affected as COE increases the costs of goods and services.

How about ERP?

"COEs: Nice, But No Cigar
Car ownership in Singapore
Singapore has one of the lowest car ownership rates, among advanced economies, worldwide. In 2022, there were only 149 cars per thousand inhabitants here, a rate less than half that of the UAE or Taiwan, a quarter that of the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and six times less than New Zealand and the United States."
"COE prices hit a new high in October, following repeated new records set in prior months. The open category now changes hands at $152,000, more than five times the recommended retail price of a brand-new Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla sold elsewhere. This is one of the major drivers of ever-rising pressure on our nation’s cost of living, and COEs were implicated in the most recent increase in headline inflation."

Same as imposing a tariff on all cars. In some category more than 100%.

The result is runaway inflation and world title as most expensive city.

The combined effect of higher transport costs for residents and businesses in S'pore contributes to the general cost of living increases. This affects everything from food to housing for everybody - not just car owners. Spiralling COE premiums are a cost-push factor that drives up prices in various sectors of the economy.

Do u hv a better solution to resolve the car ownership problem without causing rising living cost? Japan try to solve it by S proof of car owners having parking lots and charge very high parking cost. But tt too causes high living cost.

Trading Economics:  In China, employed persons refer to who performed some work for one hour during the reference period.

There is no solutions 1 can find w/o getting car owners to pay 4 the roads and other facilities such as car parking space and air and environmental pollution. It is only fair car owners to pay these costs.

Unscrupulous, COE is a self-imposed tax and it's contradictory to a free market mechanism.

"The most affordable countries for car ownership:

The tiny European country Luxembourg is the most affordable place overall to buy and operate its most popular car, the Volkswagen Golf, scoring just 0.46 out of 10."

In Singapore, taxpayers money were used for infrastructure projects include  building roads, tunnels , expressways and parking facilities ..

And yet, other poorer Singaporeans suffered the high cost of living immensely from extreme high COE prices.

So far, Govt has not done research to proof or produced clear evidence that ExxonMobil and Shell oil refineries emitted toxic dusts and air pollution causing cancers..

Has Govt proven that cars are worse?
