This case very clear, the driver is negligent as the woman did not just appear or rush out from the kerb to the road suddenly

She is already on the road and the car whacked into her

She likely is in the wrong for jaywalking, but all cars must be vigilant of traffic situation in front of them and keep a distance and don't speed or rush on the road.

If the drive had driven slowly at the turn and remain alert, he could have avoided hitting that woman

If you are turning, you drive slowly because your view is obscured by the bend

If the driver had driven slowly, he definitely will see the woman and that is the right way to drive when one is at a turn

Even if a small rat run across the road, he can also see it if he have driven slowly and pay attention to the road

Seems like the driver, who was on lane 1 of the side road, was aiming for lane 3 of Anson Rd to head to either Cecil or Maxwell Rd.
When the light turns green, he most likely was looking to the left as he tried to accelerate to overtake the lorry on his left (lane 2).
So he failed to notice the jaywalking "elderly" woman who also started to cross Anson road.

But still his fault for not looking out for pedestrian(s) standing on unusual spots on the road, like this case where there isn't any proper pedestrian crossing.

Strange thing is, if you replay the video, actually the car managed to break early and did not hit her with high impact. It just struck her slightly, and she fell which is why the initial FB posts mentioned that hope she can survive. It seems like the impact though low, might have caused her to fall and hit her head on the ground or there could be other causal factors such as heart attack etc.

The angle the video was taken was deceptive

You can just look at the things the boy picked up

1. The car plate

2. The woman's slipper/sandal

Both items were flung far away from the woman

If the car was not accelerating while turning, this would not hv happened

Clearly the driver was stepping on accelerator coming out of the turn

Clearly the driver's fault, besides not being alert behind the wheel

I will be very surprised if the police does not charge him in court
