JAKARTA :Indonesia will further restrict exports of palm oil from Thursday to increase domestic supplies, as authorities ramp up efforts to contain a surge in cooking oil prices, Trade Minister Muhammad Lutfi said.

The world's biggest producer and exporter of palm oil will require companies to sell 30per cent of their planned exports of crude palm oil and olein at home, up from 20per cent currently, under a scheme known as Domestic Market Obligation (DMO). The new restriction will stay in place for at least six months.

The tightening of restrictions will remove more vegetable oil from a global market already suffering a squeeze in supplies after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which is a key global supplier of sunflower oil.

Indonesia think of the people and protect its people. That's their business.
In Singapore PAP only think of GDP. If you die that's your business.

All you need to do is change how politicians are paid. Give them a salary marked to median income. Then have their kpi tied to upping median and lower income without massive inflationary pressure, ie real income growth.

Then upon politicians retirement, give out bonus that is multiple of top income group as a reward for their leadership ability to improving lives of citizens.

Contrast the above with current system where they are so aloof and so well paid with top wage, why the hell they want to rock the boat? Might as well count million dollar salary at home.. lol

Your points are valid but who can change it? The politicians or the voters?
It has been like this for more than 50 years.

The only hope is for external crisis to stall their progress and diminishes their political mileage.

Our politicians sibeh tokgong. Go parliament to talk about degree expiry, less bbt shops, less sodium intake amongst others. Convene a trial for a compulsive liar despite their busy schedule. Truly world class.
