UK charges exiled Myanmar ambassador with trespassing at diplomatic residence.

LONDON - British police charged Myanmar's former ambassador to the United Kingdom with trespassing on a diplomatic residence in London that he has refused to leave since being ousted for opposing Myanmar's 2021 military coup.

Kyaw Zwar Minn was locked out of his embassy a few months after the February 2021 coup, and was later replaced by the junta's representatives, after calling for the release of Myanmar's civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

Since his protest, praised by the British government at the time, Kyaw Zwar Minn has stayed at the northwest London ambassador's residence, a mansion surrounded by razor wire and CCTV cameras. He has refused to hand it back to the embassy, which he says is now run by representatives of an illegitimate government.

Combined resistance forces briefly captured junta battalion HQ in Shwekyin Township, Bago Region last Thursday—only to lose it again when massive reinforcements arrived. The parallel National Unity Govt (NUG) on Sunday said its own armed wing, the People’s Defense Forces (PDF), & the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) jointly overran HQ of Light Infantry Battalion 598 at Nyaung Chay Htauk Village in Shwekyin. PDF’s Yangon Regional Command said resistance forces seized some 80 weapons together with ammunition & 3 anti-drone jammers during the attack & 30 regime soldiers were found dead at base, six were arrested with seven of their family members. The battalion commander & another 50 regime soldiers fled.

PDF video shows resistant raiding  base &seizing several weapons. The regime made a rare admission on Sunday its troops had to retreat due to the huge numbers of “enemy forces.” But 3,days of fighting later, junta reinforcements managed to retake base with support of airstrikes artillery attacks on Saturday.
Junta said its reinforcement were able to rally soldiers who had fled battalion HQ.
As “some” military personnel were killed or injured in fighting but added its own troops found bodies of six PDF/KNLA troops along w/weapons & ammunition.
On Friday, KNLA & allies seized regime’s Hteekhee base on Thai border in Tanintharyi Region’s Dawei Township. Noted: KNLA is an armed wing of Myanmar’s oldest ethnic political organization, Karen National Union, also has trained armed several thousands of anti-regime activists, since 2021 coup. It has also helped the civilian National Unity Government with the formation of People’s Defense Forces, now fighting in Karen & Mon States and Tanintharyi & Bago Regions have attacked regime targets in admin capital Naypyitaw.

BRUSSELS: The EU on Wednesday (May 14) voiced shock at a deadly air strike on a school in central Myanmar, warning the "perpetrators must be held accountable for this atrocity". A Myanmar junta air strike on Monday killed 20 students and two teachers in the village of Oe Htein Kwin in the country's Sagaing region, according to a school staff member, a local administrator, and other witnesses.

"We are horrified over reports of a massacre in a village school in Sagaing," EU foreign affairs woman, Anitta Hipper, said on X. "Our deepest condolences to the families of the victims, most of them children." The strike took place during a purported truce -- to ease aid after March's devastating magnitude-7.7 quake -- between junta, which seized power in 2021, and guerrilla fighters. - AFP

India, Myanmar, & the weight of regional instability on Bangladesh.

DHAKA – B4 their latest fighting, India & Pakistan fought 3-wars, experiences suggest conflicts of these two countries rarely remain confined within their borders. Bangladesh inevitably feels ripple effects during India/Pakistan cricket matches, Bangladesh finds it difficult to remain emotionally neutral or indifferent to armed confrontations.
This solely due to geographical proximity. Their religious sociocultural heritages formed are connection centuries inseparable connections are why it often feels like Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India are members of a vibrant, albeit feuding joint family, “past” may politically divided the societies, but their separate “presents” have not emotionally detached them from one another. On the first day of the latest conflict, a friend working at a leading national daily informed me that their viewership had tripled. It’s curiosity—it’s a reflection of collective anxiety, nostalgia, unresolved identity questions still echo from subcontinent’s traumatic history of Partition and its aftermath. Tongue

However, besides shelling Pakistan, India has also initiated a massive push-in op along its borders w/Bangladesh, further complicating regional dynamics. So far, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Indian forces have pushed around 300 individuals into Bangladesh, including Rohingya, through remote border areas in Satkhira, Khagrachhari, Moulvibazar, & Kurigram. Some people's are reportedly Bangla speakers & come from Gujarat. If among them were really illegal inmigrants residing in India, that issue could addressed through formal channels. Instead, India has simultaneously launched push-in op at multiple border points, which is clearly unjust and contrary to diplomatic norms. Those already pushed into Bangladesh have claimed that various Indian agencies on other side of the border are gathering more Bangla-speaking individuals. Many Rohingya who migrated to India from Arakan are also reportedly being assembled. These developments are deeply concerning. It is hard to believe that Indian policymakers do not understand how such actions would upset and anger the Bangladeshi government and people.

To respond to the push-in, Bangladesh may inevitably be compelled to initiate a pushback programme. While that may appear inhumane, the government has no real alternative. The border situation is bound to get heated up due to such back and forth. This development is especially significant in light of the relentless propaganda war Bangladesh has faced from some segments of Indian media since the ouster of the Awami League from power in August last year. The nature of Bangladesh government should be a matter solely for the people of Bangladesh to decide. India may understandably be uncomfortable with the political changes here, but engaging in widespread misinformation campaigns targeting an entire country and its people is downright antagonistic. Additionally, amid such hostile propaganda and aggressive push-in efforts, Bangladesh is also facing a tense situation along its southern border.

Aftershock kills two in Mandala limited aid, restrictions on rebuilding, & the fear of aftershocks are causing survivors ongoing hardship more than 7 weeks after March’s devastating earthquake. A father & son were killed in Mandalay on Saturday when a 5.7-magnitude tremor caused a tree to fall on their temporary dwelling on a monastery compound, locals and emergency responders said.

The tremor, a likely aftershock from the devastating, 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit central Myanmar on March 28 of this year, had a magnitude of 5.7 and was centred in Myittha, some 30 miles south of Mandalay. incident took place at the Abhyarama Shwegu Monastery in Sein Pan ward—part of Mandalay’s Maha Aungmyay Township has been sheltering large numbers of people displaced by the March quake. Following a heavy rainstorm that occurred on the same day, a large lebbeck tree with a height of more than 40 feet was uprooted & fell on the refugees’ temporary shelter, killing the displaced people inside. crying

This long-awaited great news that i hv said before. What rebels needs is air to surface missile stinger launchers to bring down those junta planes. It is very effective as it is carried over the shoulder and can run abt to shift locations. The Hamas did use this to attack Israelite tanks.
