Trump said on Friday (Jul 4) he was "very unhappy" about his telephone call with Russian leader Vladimir Putin, saying: "He wants to go all the way, just keep killing people, it's no good".
The US president said he and Putin talked about sanctions "a lot", adding: "He understands that it may be coming".
Hours-long Russian bombardments sent Ukrainians scurrying for shelters across the country and came after the call between Trump and Putin, which ended without a breakthrough.
AFP journalists in Kyiv heard drones buzzing over the capital and explosions ringing out throughout the night as Ukrainian air defence systems fended off the attack.
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also spoke to Trump on Friday and said they agreed to work on bolstering Kyiv's defences.
"We spoke about opportunities in air defence and agreed that we will work together to strengthen protection of our skies," Zelenskyy said on social media after the call.
Tymur, a Kyiv resident who said he had experienced previous Russian attacks, told AFP that the assault in the early hours of Friday felt different from others.
"NOTHING LIKE THIS HAPPENED"
"Nothing like this attack had ever happened before. There have never been so many explosions," he said.
The Kremlin said on Friday it was "preferable" to achieve the goals of its invasion through political and diplomatic means.
"But as long as that is not possible, we are continuing the special operation," spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, referring to Russia's invasion.
At least three people were wounded in Russian drone and artillery strikes on several parts of Eastern Ukraine overnight from Friday to Saturday, regional governor Sergiy Lysak said on Telegram.

Dutch intelligence services say Russia has stepped up use of banned chemical weapons in Ukraine. Two Dutch intelligence agencies say that Russia is increasing its use of prohibited chemical weapons in Ukraine including the World War I-era poison gas chloropicrin. Dutch intelligence agencies said Russia is increasing its use of prohibited chemical weapons in Ukraine, Netherlands’ intelligence security service, together with German intelligence service, found Russia use of prohibited chemical weapons by Russian military had become “standardized commonplace” in Ukraine. According to findings, enemy military uses chloropicrin & riot control agent CS against sheltering Ukrainian soldiers, then forced out into the open and shot. Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans called for more sanctions against Moscow, continued military support for Kyiv. Brekelmans, who stayed on in a caretaker role after the Dutch govt collapsed last month, said he doesn't want to see use of chemical weapons become normalized.

Ukraine’s army aviation has become the first in the world to systematically use helicopters to intercept enemy drones, particularly during air attacks involving Shahed loitering munitions. This was reported in a comment to Ukrinform by Lieutenant Colonel Mykola Liubarets, a 1st class pilot and Hero of Ukraine. “This is our own know-how. No one else in the world has used helicopters in such a systematic way against drones. And this experience is already attracting interest from NATO partners,” Liubarets emphasized. According to him, Ukrainian army aviation is not borrowing foreign standards, but rather creating combat solutions that are now being studied in the West. Notable examples include operations on Snake Island and sorties to besieged Mariupol.

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy has just said he has spoken with Britain’s prime minister Keir Starmer, discussing “joint diplomatic efforts” and plans for a meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing” in Rome “in a few days.”

In an update on his Telegram and X accounts, Zelenskyy also said Starmer also expressed his condolences over continuing Russian attacks on Ukraine as the two discussed what else can be done to support Ukraine.
“We also discussed additional funding to be provided this month for Ukraine’s domestic drone production, primarily interceptor drones,” he said. Zelenskyy added that the pair also “agreed to work on strengthening other formats of cooperation with key partners as well, particularly the Ramstein format,” with focus on protecting lives of Ukrainians against on-going attacks by Russia.

Estonia is trying to learn from Ukraine. How to bracing for a potential Russian invasion, with NATO leaders warning that war could come within the next few year.
Especially this decade in a response, Estonia is fortifying its border, boosting defense spending, conducting large-scale military drills, and coordinating closely with its allies. As tensions rise and Russia eyes former imperial territories, the Baltic state is sending a clear message: it won’t be an easy target. The groundwork is being laid now for a fierce defense against future aggression on Estonia.

Germany order up to 600 Leopard 2A8 tanks & Puma Infantry Fighting Vehicles & up to 1,000 Boxer 8x8 armored vehicles as part of its largest planned armored fleet expansion since Cold War.
Germany’s military doctrine has turn historically emphasized restraint, but now turn multilateralism, shaped by lessons of the 20th century. As Putin/Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 triggered a seismic shift in Berlin’s strategic calculus. German govt now views a possibility of a conventional conflict on European soil not as a distant contingency but as a credible threat demanding immediate & sustained action.
This led to a new sense of urgency in revitalizing the Bundeswehr, it had for years been plagued by under funding, for logistical bottlenecks, & equipment shortfalls. Such turning point came with Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s 2022 Zeitenwende speech, which pledged a €100 billion special defense fund,
marked a beginning of a profound military renaissance.
Today, Germany is no longer content with symbolic defense measures.
The goal is to build fully equipped, combat-ready forces capable of rapid deployment and high-intensity operations alongside NATO allies. Especially on it Northern, North of Poland front..who has another big bro (Belarus) just next to Russia it neighbour.
The three weaker neighbour to Poland North. They are three Nato member, and they are Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. See map.
