Skyeton, the Ukrainian developer of the well-known long-range Raybird unmanned aerial vehicles, which have logged over 350,000 hours of combat flights, has become a target of technological espionage by unscrupulous European companies, The Telegraph reports. The Raybird vehicles are capable of carrying different types of payloads, such as reconnaissance cameras, radio frequency locators, and other equipment, and flying up to 2,500km on missions up to 28 hours long.
Roman Kniazhenko, the company’s CEO, reveals this. According to him, Western manufacturers visit “as guests” with alleged proposals for cooperation, but instead they are trying to steal production secrets.

“Then they do beautiful pitch books, beautiful presentations about how they’re operating in Ukraine. But actually they’ve done just a couple of flights in Lviv [the western city more than 1,000km from the front line],” he says. Sometimes, Kniazhenko continues, he sees in their presentations, “literally my own words, without any change.”
He also emphasizes that while Ukrainian drones withstand very real combat conditions, taking off even from puddles, European govts are spending billions on products that merely simulate combat effectiveness. “The big problem, after that, is that billions of dollars go to the companies that still don’t have any idea what they’re doing,” says Kniazhenko.
Meanwhile, Skyeton team, currently 500 people strong, works 24/7 developing drones for the toughest frontline conditions. One example: effectiveness was an operation in Black Sea: Ukrainian special forces went missing at night, and a Raybird, with its lights on, was able to locate them in the dark waters.
“From one side, everything looks perfect for us. But it was like hell, a night of hell. When you are destroying something you feel good for a couple seconds. But when you know that you saved someone. Like, it’s a totally different feeling,” explains Kniazhenko.
He also urges the West to fund the production of Ukrainian drones on its territory instead of starting a startup from scratch. Every country has the technologies it is good at, he stresses, adding that for Ukraine, it is clear that it is drones.

According to info published by the German newspaper Bild on July 14,
2025, Armin Papperger, Chairman of the Exe Board of Rheinmetall AG, confirmed German defense company is currently in advanced negotiations w/German gov to deliver between 6000 & up to 7,000 combat vehicles, aim is to equip several newly structured brigades as effort to modernize expand the Bundeswehr’s (German army) combat readiness.
Germany launches historic rearmament program with plans to acquire up to 7000 combat vehicles. Rheinmetall to lead built largest land forces modernization since WWII. German govt procurement plan includes core armored platforms such as the Leopard 2 main battle tank, Puma tracked infantry fighting vehicle, and Boxer 8x8 armored personnel carrier. According to Armin Papperger, surge in demand bring Rheinmetall upto 70 billion euros defense contracts over next twelve mths, only from Germany.
This massive acquisition drive is part of Germany’s strategic response to growing geopolitical threats, particularly from Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Since then, Berlin has committed to overhauling its defense, moving away from decades of post-Cold War restraint toward a fully equipped, combat-ready force aligned with NATO’s forward defense goals, plan to add thousands of armored fighting vehicles represents a fundamental transformation of the Bundeswehr’s capabilities structure. Rheinmetall, already a critical supplier to NATO forces, is positioning itself as the central industrial actor behind Germany’s land forces renewal. New vehicles will enable Germany to establish multiple brigades, capable of rapid deployment, sustained op within NATO's deterrence framework in Eastern Europe.
Germany’s current combat vehicle: 313 main battle tanks, comprising 209 Leopard 2A5/A6 & 104 Leopard 2A7V variants, in iffantry vehicle category, the Bundeswehr op 680 IFVs, including 258 Marder 1A3/A4, 72 Marder 1A5, & 350 Puma. Armored personnel carriers, total 802, broken down into 112 tracked APCs (75 Bv-206S and 37 M113) and 690 wheeled APCs (331 Boxer & 359 TPz-1 Fuchs). Procurement is expected to replace older systems & expand NATO force to meet Germany’s commitment.
The Leopard 2A8 is atest most advanced variant proven Leopard 2 tank family. It features cutting-edge protection system including Israeli-designed Trophy active protection system, improved mine & IED resistance, upgraded optics, enhanced battlefield survivability. Armed with a 120mm smoothbore cannon, Leopard 2A8 is engineered for high-intensity warfare against peer adversaries to designed to maintain overmatch in mobility, protection, and firepower on the modern battlefield.
While Puma infantry vehicle represents a new generation of tracked IFVs in the German Army, Puma offers high levels of crew protection, modular armor options, advanced battlefield networking, & is equipped with a stabilized 30mm MK30-2/ABM automatic cannon with airburst capability. Puma is designed to transport mechanized infantry while providing direct fire support in both conventional and asymmetric environments. Boxer 8x8 is a highly modular wheeled armored vehicle platform produced by the ARTEC consortium, with Rheinmetall as a key partner. Its interchangeable mission modules allow rapid configuration into a variety of roles, for eg as a armored personnel carrier, command post, medical evacuation, or fire support. With proven performance in multiple with several NATO countries, Boxer offers a balance of protection, mobility & tactical versatility. Bundeswehr currently op 331 Boxer vehicles in various configurations, making it a cornerstone of Germany’s wheeled combat capability. This historic procurement push increase in German defense spending. Since 2022, Germany has created a 100 billion euro special fund to modernize the Bundeswehr is now among top NATO contributors. By 2025, Berlin’s budget is expected to reach 85 billion euros, the federal govt officially approved plans to progressively increase military spending to reach 5%
of GDP over next few years. Represent a seismic shift in German defense policy, positioning, not only as NATO’s largest economic contributor in Euro but also as future top conventional land power.
Alongside armored procurement, plans to increase active-duty personnel from 180,000 to over 200,000 by 2030 & expand investment on ammo production, missile defense, logistics, and cyber capabilities. In light of ongoing security threats from Russia, German defense authorities now consider the possibility of a direct Russian offensive against NATO territory within the next five to eight years as a credible risk. The rapid rearmament of the Bundeswehr is therefore seen as a strategic necessity to deter aggression and ensure Germany can fulfill its operational commitments to NATO’s collective defense. As Europe’s largest economy reclaims a leading military role on the continent, this unprecedented deal w/Rheinmetall marks a decisive turning point in Germany’s defense trajectory.

This vote is a historic move for traditionally debt-shy Germany, & could be hugely significant for Europe, as Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine grinds on, & SAO President Donald the duck, Solals Trump signalled a very uncertain commitment to Nato and to Europe's defence...

After suffering the biggest and worst Russian air assaults with hundreds of drones and missiles, Ukraine is about to receive a huge boost for its air defense. Western allies have decided to drastically step up the production of thousands of air defense rockets to secure Ukraine’s sky. The UK announced its largest air-defense package for Ukraine, pledging over 5,000 advanced missiles in a landmark 3.3 billion-dollar deal. Produced by Thales in Belfast, these precision-guided, high-speed missiles resist electronic jamming, significantly enhancing Ukraine’s defenses against Russian drones and low-altitude threats. The package includes advanced FZ275 LGR rockets, updated now with laser guidance. They are compatible with Ukraine’s mobile Vampire systems, providing a cost-effective solution for intercepting drones within a 3 kilometer range. Additionally, UK will provide Lightweight Multirole Missiles, infrared-guided systems weighing 13 kg each capable of targeting slower, low-flying threats like Russia’s Shahed drones at ranges of up to 8 km. A comprehensive package significantly enhances Ukraine’s ability to defend itself, especially considering Russia’s growing reliance on drone attacks.
Indeed, Russia’s aerial tactics have shifted dramatically, focusing now on launching massive drone swarms rather than relying heavily on expensive and scarce cruise or ballistic missiles. Recent Russian strikes typically involve hundreds of drones, often combining Shahed attack and Gerber decoy drones to saturate and overwhelm Ukrainian air defense systems. The intensity of these attacks has increased, with Russian forces now even launching large drone formations in the morning hours instead of predominantly nighttime strikes. This sustained pressure significantly depletes Ukraine’s air defense assets complicates continuous defense coverage. Facing these daunting conditions, Ukraine strategically allocates its limited high-end missile interceptors, such as Patriot, Iris-T, or Samp-T, only to neutralize Russian ballistic & hypersonic threats, preserving their scarce stocks for most critical threats, the sheer quantity of Russian drones has increasingly stretched these resources thin, sometimes allowing enemy missiles to penetrate defenses. With UK’s massive missile delivery, Ukraine will be better positioned to intercept larger drone swarms and even some missile attacks, thereby reducing the effectiveness of Russia’s aerial assaults.
While these shorter-range missiles lack the interception capability against high-speed ballistic threats that systems like Patriot provide, their abundance ensures fewer missiles slip through Ukraine’s defensive umbrella, ultimately saving civilian lives and critical infrastructure. Ukraine currently intercepts around 85-90% of incoming Russian drones and missiles, significantly reducing casualties and damage. Maintaining this high interception rate is crucial, as each successful interception conserves limited air defense resources and directly diminishes Russia’s capacity to terrorize and pressure Ukraine through air strikes. Looking for a sustainable and strategic solution, Germany is initiating a significant shift in European air defense capacity by planning to domestically produce Patriot missile interceptors. According to German Major General Christian Freuding, Germany is currently establishing its national production lines for Patriot interceptors, with initial deliveries expected around late 2026 or early 2027. Establishing a European-controlled production line ensures Germany and Europe can independently manage missile supplies, greatly strengthening air defense capabilities across the continent against ongoing Russian threats and provocations. This step also means that European countries would now be more willing to send parts of their existing missile stockpiles to Ukraine right now, as they would know that they can refill them more easily and quicker in the future. Move represents a major strategic shift towards enhancing European autonomy in air defense systems, reducing dependency on U.S.

July 14 report by Euromaidan Press, an unnamed NATO says, a commercial aircraft crash caused by Russian GPS jamming would be treated as a deliberate act of war, not an accident. The remarks point to Kaliningrad as the most likely focus of any NATO retaliation. Disruptions began intensifying around December 15, 2023, with multiple airlines—including Finnair—suspending flights over Baltic airspace.
Polish researchers & other European outlets have traced Russia jamming signals to facilities in Kaliningrad and Baltiysk. Same region houses key Russian electronic warfare assets and the Baltic Fleet. NATO’s options can range from increased military support to Ukraine to direct strikes on those installations—if civilian lives are lost, any such move risks fracturing NATO’s unity, may be exactly what Putin wants.

US-founded extremist group claims killing of Ukrainian security service colonel in Kyiv. A video by the Security Service of Ukraine said the killing of Russian agents who killed an SBU officer in Kyiv on July 10, published on July 13, 2025. Ukrainian branch of US right-wing extremist organization. Base claimed responsibility for assassination of Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Colonel Ivan Voronych in Kyiv.
According to investigators, the pair had been ordered by Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) to surveil Voronych's movements then were later directed to a weapons cache containing a firearm with a silencer.
Founded in 2018 by former Pentagon contractor Rinaldo Nazzaro, the Base promotes white supremacist and neo-Nazi ideology. It has been designated a terrorist organization by U.S., U.K., & Australia. Nazzaro has lived in Russia since 2019 and has consistently denied allegations of collaborating with Russian intelligence, although Western officials and media still suspect connections. The Base has used encrypted messaging apps & propaganda networks to recruit globally. Ukrainian branch reportedly offers financial incentives for attacks on individuals and critical infrastructure.
Voronych is the highest-ranking SBU officer known to have been killed in Kyiv in a targeted assassination since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion. In a statement, the local affiliate — known as White Phoenix — praised its "comrades" for the July 10 killing of the SBU colonel in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv. Sources in the counter-terrorism field consider the group's claim credible, the Guardian reported.

Cyber specialists from Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) have conducted a large-scale cyberattack on one of Russia’s primary drone manufacturers, significantly disrupting company’s ops & securing critical technical data, says
according to hromadske sources in Ukrainian intelligence. The ops targeted IT infrastructure of Gaskar Integration, a major supplier of unmanned aerial vehicles to Russian military reportedly conducted in coordination with Ukrainian Cyber Alliance & the BO Team group, paralyzed company’s servers, internal systems, and research facilities. As a result, HUR gained access to more than 47 terabytes of technical data related to Russian drone production. This included confidential employee records & comprehensive documentation on UAV development, since been transferred to Ukraine’s Defense Forces for analysis and use...

In addition to extracting sensitive info, Ukrainian cyber units reportedly deleted all data stored on the company’s servers, including 10 terabytes of backup files, after they backup, they destroy and deleted all.
The network disruption rendered the company’s internet, accounting software, and production systems non-functional, halting ops at its development center.
Sources indicate that the cyberattack also triggered physical disruptions at the manufacturing facility. All electronic access systems were locked, forcing employees to exit through emergency fire routes. Gaskar Integration has been previously identified as a key contractor in supplying drones to the Russian military, playing a notable role in Moscow’s ongoing war effort.
Earlier, on July 15, Ukraine shot down a Russian Shahed-136 drone marked with the serial number “Ы30000,” indicating it was the 30,000th unit produced—reportedly at the Alabuga facility in Tatarstan. According to Defense Express, drone featured advanced navigation components and reflects a surge in production, with over 18,000 units manufactured in 2025 alone. Despite this acceleration, analysts warn that component shortages may soon limit output.

Australian first tranche of tanks has been handed over to Ukrainian army to help its defence against Russia’s invasion. Australia previously pledged to give Ukraine 49 Abrams tanks worth $245m last October, defence minister, Richard Marles, said tanks would aid Ukrainian firepower & complement other military equipment donated by allies to repel Russia’s invasion. “Australia remains steadfast in our support for Ukraine & hope to seeing a just & lasting peace,” Marles said. A majority of tanks have been delivered, a final tranche will arrive in the coming months, but actual numbers have not been released.
Russian missile and drone strikes in Ukraine are targeting civilians in record numbers, according to the UN human rights office. June marked deadliest mth for civilians in more than 3 years, it said.
Australia will also deploy a Wedgetail aircraft to Europe in August to protect the corridors to Ukraine through which aid is delivered. “Aus stands shoulder-to-shoulder w/Ukraine,” said the defence industry minister, Pat Conroy. Aus has committed more than $1.5bn to aid Ukraine since Russia’s invasion in Feb 2022. Aus...comes as federal govt negotiates a non-binding security pact with Ukraine, following more than two dozen other nations have similar agreements. The agreements are largely vague, not legally binding don't include
joint security or defence guarantees.
Delivery of tanks comes as UN and humanitarian partners launched an appeal to raise hundreds of millions of dollars to protect Ukrainians facing a harsh winter as Russia attacks critical infrastructure. Ukrainian drones attack Moscow for 2nd night in a row
July 18, 2025.
Moscow came under drone attack for the second consecutive night, w/explosions also reported in several other Russian oblasts, local Telegram channels and the Russian Defense Ministry claimed on July 18. Moscow Mayor said 4 Ukrainian drones were shot down on approach to the capital, with blasts heard near Zvenigorod, Istra, and Zelenograd — suburban districts and satellite towns located to the west and northwest of central Moscow.
Residents reported the sounds of explosions in multiple parts of the greater Moscow area overnight, according to Russian Telegram channels. Sobyanin did not provide details on possible damage or casualties as a result of the attacks.
Flight operations were temporarily suspended at multiple airports, including Moscow's largest ones — Domodedovo, Vnukovo, and Zhukovsky — as well as Nizhny Novgorod's Strigino and Kaluga's Grabtsevo Airport. All airports have since resumed operations.
In Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, at least five explosions were reported, with Russian news outlet Shot saying air defenses targeted drones near an industrial zone with munitions production facilities. Additional blasts were heard near Oryol, the channel said.
Russia's Defense Ministry claimed its air defenses had intercepted and destroyed 73 fixed-wing Ukrainian drones overnight, including 10 over Moscow Oblast.
The Kyiv Independent could not independently verify the claims. The latest wave follows a series of reported Ukrainian drone attacks across Russia on July 17, including strikes on Moscow, St. Petersburg, Belgorod, Voronezh, and other oblasts. Ukraine no commented on the overnight drone activity.

Russia govt has arrested Wagner fighters who fought for Russia in Ukraine, directly targeting the Kremlin’s most dangerous organization. In a bold move reject Russian influence in the South Caucasus, they are actively begins to dismantle Moscow’s entire post-Soviet power network. This is the first time a post-Soviet country has prosecuted its citizens for joining Wagner. First two mercenaries, Ramil Aliyev and Ismayil Hasanov, had both served time in Russian penal colonies b4 being recruited into Wagner under Prigozhin’s Project-K & sent to fight in Ukraine. Both men had served time in Russian penal colonies b4 being recruited under Wagner’s Project-K, a prison pipeline organized by Yevgeny Prigozhin to fuel Russia’s war in Ukraine. The two Azerbaijanis are accused of using firearms and explosives in Ukraine, both attempting to recruit others to fight for Wagner. Court in Baku ordered them detained, applying criminal statutes typically used for mercenary or terror-related offenses. Charges go beyond domestic law; they are warning to all former Wagner fighters: Will be treated not as veterans, but as war criminals.
The decision to prosecute Wagner fighters comes as part of a broader shift in Azerbaijan’s posture toward Moscow. Rather than quietly distance itself, Baku is now actively targeting Russian influence across multiple fronts: military, political, and informational. The arrests are not just about justice or legality, they are about cutting off Russian leverage. Project-K was one of Wager’s most controversial efforts, blending criminality with state-backed warfare. By going after these individuals now, Azerbaijan is effectively retroactively criminalizing its citizens' involvement in Russia’s proxy structure.
This legal offensive follows Baku’s decision to label Sputnik-Azerbaijan a Russian intelligence front, accusing its staff of running information warfare campaigns and building pro-Kremlin influence networks inside the country. While that episode focused on soft power, the Wagner arrests are something different: they mark the beginning of hard legal action against Russian hybrid operatives on Azerbaijani soil. No other country in the region has drawn such a hard legal line, making this a precedent-setting moment.
Diplomatic tensions have escalated in parallel, when a Russian delegation led by Emergency Situations Minister Aleksandr Kurenkov visited Baku in July carrying a diplomatic message from Vladimir Putin???. President Illham Aliyev refused to meet them. That snub was deliberate and deeply symbolic, in the post-Soviet space, as Russia has traditionally relied on in-person meetings and backchannel diplomacy to maintain leverage. This time, Azerbaijan shut the door; refusal to receive Putin’s envoy suggests that Baku no longer sees Russian diplomacy as useful or necessary. It also signals that Azerbaijan is prepared to let relations deteriorate further if Moscow keeps pushing.
In the meantime, Azerbaijan is strengthening ties with Ukraine in both practical and symbolic ways. Baku recently sent specialized demining equipment to Ukrainian forces, support that may appear modest on paper, but carries real strategic weight. It directly contributes to Ukraine’s ability to clear liberated areas, protect civilians, and prepare for counteroffensive operations. Azerbaijan is openly siding with Ukraine on key security issues, while simultaneously targeting Russia’s covert networks at home. And it is doing so without Western prompting, showing that Russia’s isolation is becoming self-reinforcing. Behind all of this lies a deeper shift; Azerbaijan is no longer trying to balance between East and West. It is picking sides, and doing so with surgical precision. The prosecutions, media clampdown, and diplomatic snubs are part of a coherent policy aimed at dismantling Russia’s influence in the South Caucasus. For Moscow, this is not just a diplomatic headache; it is a strategic defeat, its once loyal partner is now helping Ukraine, rejecting backchannel envoys, and arresting Wagner fighters as criminals.
Overall, the crackdown on Wagner is not just a domestic legal move; it reshapes the regional landscape. By treating Russian mercenaries as criminals rather than veterans, Baku is signaling to the rest of the post-Soviet world that the old rules of Russian dominance no longer apply. Russia’s soft and hard power tools are being dismantled from within, and Azerbaijan is leading the way.

Moscow unwilling to shift from maximalist demands in ending its war w/Ukraine, as Putin remains focused on achieving his goals on battlefield.
A Kremlin said on July 20. Putin has repeatedly spoken of his desire to bring the Ukrainian settlement to a peaceful conclusion as soon as possible???. This is a long process, it requires effort, is not easy," Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told Russian-state media reporter. "The main thing for us is to achieve our goals. Our goals are clear," Peskov added.
The remarks reflect Moscow's growing list of maximalist demands presented in its so-called "peace memorandum" during recent negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul on June 2.

Russia has what has as the "largest most secret" drone factory in world: A propaganda video showing teenagers assembling Geran-2 drones used target Ukraine. The facility @Alabuga industrial park near Kazan in the Tatarstan is one of Russia's main production hubs, allowing it to produce a reported 5,200 Shahed-type strike drones and decoy models a month as of May. "This is the largest such plant in the world and the most secret," Timur Shagivaliev, CEO of the Alabuga Special Economic Zone, told Zvezda, the Russian Defense Ministry's television channel. "At one time, the plan was to produce several thousand (Geran drones) — now we are producing nine times more than planned. Russian state media released footage show teenagers assembling drones inside facility, a recruitment program targeting students as young as 15 from local technical colleges. "Everywhere you look, there's young people working here," a voice-over in Zvezda video says, as dozens of teenagers are seen making drone components and working at computer stations on a brightly lit factory floor.
Yelabuga plant was targeted by Ukrainian drones multiple times: Ukraine need bring more power with more powerful missiles drones to destroy such plant, not just 1-2 missiles but 50-kg or even 100 kg warhead.
Latest attack happened on June 15 not enough. Yelabuga plant, launched in 2023, is equipped w/metal foundries, blacksmith shops, & in-house assembly lines, reportedly uses parts shipped in from Iran via Caspian Sea & Kama River. A Russian military think tank claimed drone jumped 16.9% in May
Geran-2 drone, with a 3.5-meter length & has a range of 1,800 km & speeds 300 km/h. Each unit is estimated to cost as little as $35,000–$49,000 — a fraction multimillion-dollar cost compare to Western air defense interceptors U.S.-made Patriot missile.
Russia launched over 5,300 Shahed drones in June alone. Ukraine suffered the largest single-day drone and missile strike on July 9, with 741 aerial weapons launched. Germany's Maj. Gen. Christian Freuding, head of Ukraine policy at the German Defense Ministry, warned on July 19 that Russia aims to eventually launch 2,000 drones a night. A Bundeswehr podcast, Freuding said Ukraine could counter such barrages only by striking drone production sites & lowering interception costs. Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service reported in June that Russia plans to manufacture 30,000 long-range drones and 2 million FPV (first-person-view) drones in 2025, signaling a massive expansion of drone warfare.
Ukraine must work harder has increased its domestic drone production response. President Volodymyr Zelensky said Kyiv has the capacity to produce up to 8 million drones annually, though it lacks the foreign funding to scale fully. Former Defense Minister Rustem Umerov earlier estimated a 4 mil drone yearly capacity.
