These days I’m having difficulties differentiating between the different parties in Taiwan. It used to be very clear cut that DPP was the green one advocating Taiwan independence whereas the KMT and PFP were the blue ones who were pushing for status quo (ambiguous ROC status without reunification) and continuing economic integration with China.

Now it looks to me all the 3 main parties DPP, KMT, TPP are the same pushing for status quo ROC agenda and continued economic dealings with China.

The DPP in typical opportunistic fashion has decisively pivoted to what used to be the KMT ideology especially now that the hardcore independent ideologues have either died out or been purged by Tsai. KMT has morphed into an old age home with dwindling young members and hasn’t updated its playbook for decades and has nothing new to offer. TPP has no ideology and is almost entirely dependent on its founder Ko and randomly criticizes both DPP and KMT to get votes.

At the rate it’s going very soon the only differentiating factor these parties have is to see who can field more shuaiges and chiobus for elections…

You have a good point. Even within DPP there are many different subgroups that fight one another fiercely, for example the new DPP chief Lai is from a different subgroup from English Tsai’s, they dunt like each other politically.

Indeed. This William Lai is an interesting chameleon: IIRC he launched his career under the wings of hardcore pro-independence DPP elders who are even more extremist than Chen Tsui Bian and at one point even audaciously declared himself as someone dedicated to a lifelong career of seeking Taiwanese independence.

However during his contest with Tsai for DPP leadership in 2019(?) out of the blue he suddenly pushed for a totally different narrative from the established DPP one by claiming he wanted to make peace with China in order to protect Taiwan. This was in total opposition to Tsai's then election call of whipping up Taiwanese patriotism by resisting China.

Now that Tsai has pivoted to what is traditional KMT territory of ROC status quo without reunification, I was mildly surprised that he actually continued Tsai's policy of status quo in his first proclamation as DPP leader by suing for peace with China through what is essentially Ma Ying Jeou's 3 No policy.

Looks to me there is no more Green-Blue divide in Taiwan anymore, everyone is essentially a White with a tinge of mild Blue now. Weird.
