Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Army died while opening a birthday gift

General Zaluzhny said an "unknown explosive device" was hidden inside one of the gifts.

Meanwhile, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko wrote on Telegram on November 6 that the initial investigation showed that Mr. Chastykov "came home from work with gifts from colleagues and showed them to his family. He opened them." The gift box contained the grenades and showed it to his son. Initially, the son held the grenade and twisted it. Mr. Chastyakov took the grenade out of his son's hand and then a tragic explosion occurred."

One Russian marine from 810th Guards Naval Infantry Brigade described his brigade’s situation as “very difficult.” As Ukrainians “are constantly firing artillery, using cluster munitions and, most importantly, they are using a whole horde of [first-person-view] drones and UAVs with [grenades] that work around the clock.”

Ukraine war live updates: Putin insists Russia and China are not building Cold War-like alliances as defense officials meet

Moscow and Beijing are not forming any military alliances reminiscent of "Cold War associations," Russian President Vladimir Putin said as he made another thinly-veiled swipe at NATO.

Putin met Zhang Youxia, the deputy chairman of China's Central Military Council on Wednesday as a wider delegation of Chinese defense officials visited Moscow.

News from Armed Forces of Ukraine, French-built SCALP missiles were used in deep strike.

Shipyard is about 150 miles away from nearest Ukrainian-controlled territory, far beyond range of most Ukrainian weapons systems.

AFU claimed attack on yard's infrastructure was successful & shipyard was "where one of the most modern ships Russian Navy was ..."

Local channel Crimean Wind has identified the vessel as the missile is Askold Project 22800 corvette. Askold is a newly built vessel, capable of deploying Kalibr supersonic cruise missiles, which have caused extensive damage to infrastructure behind the lines in Ukraine.

According to Russian media, the Russian has confirmed that a ship was damaged in the strike, without identifying the vessel.

Independently-obtained satellite imagery from U.S. operator Planet Labs appears to show that a corvette-sized warship was at the pier at Zaliv a few days before the attack. The same vessel appears in a follow-up photo on November 5.

This inspiration for an entire genre of patriotic memes on social media. The incident even prompted Ukraine’s national postal service to issue an iconic stamp.

The defiance displayed by the defenders of Snake Island set the tone for the war at sea,

This has the Ukraine achieve a frankly stunning string of successes against the Russian Black Sea Fleet despite not possessing a fleet of its own. Indeed, while attention is currently focused on the largely static front lines against Putin Russian soldiers on conflict in southern and eastern Ukraine.

Geolocation images released on 12 Nov show Ukrainian forces advanced deep into the village of Krynky. Russian troops had tried and failed to drive Ukrainian soldiers out of Krynky.

Additional Ukrainian troops conduct offensive operations near Poima (10 km southeast of Kherson 4 km from Dnipro River), more troops & personnel to Krynka area and that, Ukrainian forces intended to cut Russian logistics lines and attack the infrastructure connecting to Russian contact zone (rear areas) in occupied Crimea, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.

Chinese leader Xi Jinping presented an amicable China ready to improve ties with the United States in a landmark meeting with US President Joe Biden Wednesday, marking a noticeable shift in tone for Beijing as it looks to minimize friction with Washington.

Whether that shift is a lasting one for the contentious relationship will be put to an immediate test, however, by comments made by Biden during a solo press conference after the meeting. There, the President reiterated his view that Xi is a “dictator,” after being asked by a reporter whether he stood by a comment saying as much this past June.

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine’s troops secured multiple bridgeheads on the eastern bank of the Dnieper River in the Kherson region in fighting that the country’s marine corps described Friday as having left nearly 3,500 Russians killed or wounded and dozens of ammunition depots, tanks, armored vehicles and other weaponry destroyed.

The Marine Infantry Command’s claims were the first to come directly from the Ukrainian military about advances across one of Russia’s most significant strategic barriers. Earlier this week, Andriy Yermak, the head of the president’s office, confirmed for the first time that Ukraine had established a foothold on the eastern side of the river.

The wide river is a natural dividing line along the southern battlefront, and Moscow’s forces have used it since leaving the area around the city of Kherson in November 2022 to prevent Ukrainian troops from advancing farther toward Russian-annexed Crimea.
