That goes the same for selling Bak kwa. Once a year sales can rest for whole year.

my neighbour taxi driver  once told me few yrs back b4 covid 19 on the actual day itself of lunar 8th month 15thdy 
there were 50% discount at takashimaya moon cake fair 
need to be early to grab if not finished fast.
there were 2  lady bot 5 bags of moonckaes MAYBE TOTAL ARD 20 BOXES  took a taxi  ard 10.30 am to  few TUAS factories as gifts to their clients(ordered fr boss to do so)

so if can save ,sve
50% is a lot.

I think your father bluff you lah. That time in 1970s, a box of mooncake cost only about a dollar or less, one mooncake about 10 cents, so many mooncakes must sell to earn for one year living expenses?       Big Grin

In 1970 there were no fancy mooncakes that cost  $50 for one piece or bak kwa mooncakes. That time only got tau sar or pork mooncakes which were stuffed with a piece of fat pork, some extremely sweet tangkoi, pumpkin seeds and some with a half york.    Big Grin

4 big mooncakes fr glory or mac taste or lau fatt kee cost 4.50 to 5.00  so each ard 1.25sgd
they are all not so sweet lotus paste
of course qlty cant compare to those costing ard 10sgd a pc

DONT WASTE MONEY ON THESE UNHEALHY STUFF
as gifts is ok but or for praying or own makan  spend wisely

It all boils down to affordability. Why are there still so many private homes and cars in S'pore? Are the people stupid to fork out so much money for these possessions? If they can afford to, it's up to them.
