Ukrainian attack drones flew hundreds of kilometers deep into Russia to hit a heavy bomber base during early hours of Tuesday morning, with residents & local news platforms reporting explosions & flames airfield in a morning statement confirmed attack said local air defenses shot down nine Ukrainian drones attempting to strike Engels-1 military airfield, in southeastern outskirts of the Volga River port city of Saratov. Kremlin announcement said.

Ambitious Ukrainian Kamikaze Drone Attack Hits Heavy Bomber Base Deep Inside Russia
Recent satellite imagery shows there were bombers on the tarmac recently, but actual damage to one of the Kremlin’s biggest military airfields isn’t clear. The base is well outside of US ATACMS range. Social media video geo-located to the center of the city of Saratov, 750 kilometers (466 miles) from the nearest probable Ukrainian drone launch sites, showed images of explosions and flames reaching into the sky from the vicinity of the airbase, anti-aircraft tracers flying skyward, and audio of cannons and heavy machine guns firing.

European Union Sentinel 2 satellite imagery published by the open-source military aviation researcher @MT_Anderson on Sept. 14 and 15 showed two Tu-22 supersonic bombers, one Tu-160 supersonic bomber, and 5 Tu-95 turboprop bombers on tarmac at Engels-2 airbase. The next Sentinel 2 overpass of Engels will take place on Sept. 18th, he said.

Russians Murder Ukrainian POW in Donetsk Region with Sword Inscribed 'For Kursk' An image posted on social media shows the prisoner lying on his back with his hands tied and a sword inscribed with “For Kursk” thrust into his chest.

Some Ukrainian milbloggers suggested the Tuesday attack was aimed at munitions delivered at airfield for later launch at Ukraine. Usually reliable Kyiv-based military observer Vertikal on Monday citing Ukrainian govt said unspecified observers monitoring airbase had spotted signs of missiles being unloaded at Engels-2 one day before drone strike.

The Ukraine volunteer-operated Ukraine Front Line in a Tuesday morning X report said it was a batch of newly produced Kh-101/55SM cruise missiles delivered by an Il-76MD Russian Air Force cargo jet, and said fires observed@airfield on Tuesday were of recently arrived cruise missiles, or aircraft, hit by one or more Ukrainian drones.

A village 20 miles west of main Ukrainian salient trust into Russia’s Kursk Oblast. 6-weeks ago, a powerful Ukrainian force—dozen of battalions with 8-experienced brigades—invaded Kursk & quickly gained control of 400 sq miles of Russian soil.
If it was unclear why Ukrainians also invade around Novyi Put, it’s a bit clearer now. Backed by tanks, covered by Ukrainian air force warplanes lobbing building-demolishing glide bombs, a Ukrainian tactical group apparently anchored by 95th Air Assault Brigade is slicing right as it advances past Novyi Put through the southern blocks of the nearest Russian town, Vesoloe.
That is to say, Ukrainian troops are turning toward main Kursk salient. If attacking northeast from Novyi can connect with Ukrainians in the main salient, they’ll cut off potentially thousands of Russians between them and the border.
But it’s possible Ukrainians don’t have enough well-equipped forces to complete the maneuver.

Ukrainian Khorne Group, a team of drone operators supporting Novyi attack, hinted at the encirclement objective at start of the assault past Novyi Put “We've advanced into new areas, by kilometers, into Russia,” the group stated on Friday. “A group of Russian conscripts numbering in the thousands is at risk of being encircled.”

If the Ukrainians are indeed trying to surround Russian forces, the local geography facilitates the move. The Seym River forms a natural boundary along most of the northern edge of the potential pocket bounded on the left and right flanks by advancing Ukrainian forces.

Russian soldiers try to use pontoon bridges, or a narrow land bridge through the town of Korenevo, for their resupply. It’s for this reason that the Ukrainians are relentlessly bombarding the pontoons as soon as the Russians install them. And it’s for the same reason a Ukrainian force anchored by the 225th Assault Battalion has been marching on Korenevo, clearly intending to sever the land bridge.

A Russian counterattack in Kursk that kicked off last week hasn’t made much headway—and, if anything, has worsened the Russian disposition in the potential pocket south of Korenevo by sending additional troops into that pocket.

Geography isn’t everything. The balance of forces in Kursk could weigh on the Ukrainians’ chance of success in closing a potential encirclement. It seems Kyiv has devoted around 10,000 troops to the twin-pronged invasion of Kursk. Moscow may have sent 38,000 troops into the oblast—but many of them are poorly-trained young conscripts. While Russia try with 30,000 plus and another 30,000 more... Tongue

Today there are a lot of updates from the Kharkiv direction.
Here, Ukrainian forces have intensified their operations around the Vovchansk area, making substantial progress by merging two independent bridgeheads near Tykhe. As Russian troops attempt to consolidate control and create a buffer zone in northern Kharkiv Oblast, Ukrainian forces, supported by advanced aerial reconnaissance and precision strikes, are steadily undermining Russian efforts. This shift in momentum is tipping the balance in Ukraine’s favor, further disrupting Russia’s defensive strategies in the region.

Tale of Two Rivers: Cause of Fish Die-off Likely From Russian Factory.A Russian sugar factory just north of Ukraine is presumed to be the cause of a toxic pollution spike on the Desna and Seym rivers. Kyiv’s water supply was threatened.

In June of this year, some dead fish were found floating in the Seym River, which flows through Russia and across the border into Ukraine. On Aug. 20, reports of fish dying en masse in the river within Ukraine’s border regions began appearing on social networks.

No details on Ukraine's plan to end the fighting have been made public.

Zelenskyy said Biden would be the first foreign leader to see the plan "in full" - saying it will then also be presented to "all leaders of our partner countries". He also plans to present the proposals to the US Congress, Harris and Trump.

Harris has indicated she would continue Biden's policies on Ukraine, while Trump hugely critical of Washington's massive aid packages for Kyiv.

Ukrainian resistance almost everywhere and faced serious logistical problems with poorly motivated Russian troops suffering shortages of food, water and Putin biggest advantage is manpower?. It has shown a willingness to throw soldiers at Ukrainian positions to gain a few metres at a time. About 1,200 Russian soldiers were being killed or wounded every day in May and June, the highest rate since the beginning of the war, according to Western officials.

In recent days, Russian troops have made some significant gains to the north-west of Donetsk & claim to have captured small town of Niu-York.
In response, Ukraine has ordered the evacuation of the city of Pokrovsk,

Oleksandr Stanislavovych Syrsky was born into a military family in the rural village of Novinki, near Moscow, on July 26, 1965. At that time, Russia – like Ukraine – was part of the former Soviet Union. As a teenager, & inspired & encouraged by his father, he became set on a career in army. Syrsky studied at the Moscow Higher Military Command School, the leading military training school in Soviet Union at the time.

He arrived in Ukraine for the first time soon after completing his training, with an appointment in Chernihiv – it was not a coveted role and it resulted from a spat with a senior officer who thought it would be something of a punishment.
Syrsky, however, made a success of the posting soon gained a series of promotions. He served in Afghanistan, the Tajik SSR and Czechoslovakia before break-up of the Soviet Union, but by this point he regarded Ukraine as his home.

Ukraine gained independence in 1991. Syrsky was aged 26, was absorbed into Ukrainian military. Shortly after independence, he took an oath of allegiance to Ukraine, his friends say was, and is, all-important to him. So after Russia’s illegal annexation of Crimea, there was only ever one side. He was going to be fighting on.
