2000 years ago when Jesus lived was not very ancient. In 221 BC the first emperor of China conquered southern China after defeating and annexing the other 6 kingdoms in the north. Chinese ancestors had admixture of nomads from the north and tribal people from Baiyue tribes in the south, nomads from the north had lighter skin tone while some of the Baiyue tribes in the south had darker skin tones. Before Han Chinese conquered Baiyue tribes, many tribes fled to Vietnam, Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, Malaya, the Philippines, Indonesia and Taiwan, they are the ancestors of today’s Vietnamese, Thais, Burmese, Laotians, Cambodians, Malays, Filipinos, Indonesians and indigenous Taiwanese who have darker skin tone. After 2000 year assimilation and intermarriage, Southern Chinese now have yellow skin tone.
Having said that, some research says China was ruled by dark skinned Austronesian people migrated from East Africa under Xia (2205 -1766 BC) and Shang dynasties (1766-1046 BC). Soon after Austronesian people left China and moved to Southeast Asia.
