Not a private matter, I agree.
As a head of state, he got to think of historical values for the country.
The house is a good example that held so many important meetings.
If he thinks only family matters, then just demolish.
But he is looking at the big picture.
The future.
Singapore plans ahead 30 years.

But LKY clearly stated he personally witnessed many worlds leaders residences in shambles and thats one of the reasons he decided to demolish it.

Since LKY even predicted opposition will win one day, if so,  then no one will be interested in 30 years time.
