It is not about offering him an off-ramp to gracefully deescalated. He can create one himself with this regard.

For the rest of the world ...now that he show himself willing to break international law and commit war crimes so a concerted effort is needed.

How do you think he can create one himself? By saying that he was ill-advised by his advisers? Just like how Bush said the US intelligence had misled him?

We need to go back to the root of the problem, which is his concern with Ukraine joining into an alliance with his enemies. Both sides need to give way.
