UK has only itself to blame for this quagmire they are in. After the Brexit vote, instead of seizing the initiative to forge a new path, UK wasted years ding dong-ing with the EU over implementation which in the end resulted in yet another half-baked separation with multiple problems that extend to this day.
The most bizarre decision was for them to forsake the good relationship with China fostered by the previous Cameron government in pursuit of appeasing the Trump administration to push forward a US-UK free trade agreement. In the end Trump played them out and gave no significant concession.
When Biden came into power, the UK government made yet another fatal mistake – Instead of diversifying its stakes amongst EU, China and US, Johnson bet the farm on Biden reversing everything that Trump stood for and would thus bring about a golden age of US-UK relationship. Biden turned out to be no different from Trump in policy, just with a more polite demeanour.
UK is now trapped in a very bad geopolitical and economic situation – its relationship with US is only skin deep with nothing substantial to show for, relations with China are much in the pits while the EU is adopting a very distant and guarded stance when it comes to dealing with UK.
Johnson and his cabinet are now shouting gung ho slogans on nearly every single global issue, trying to desperately to impose the idea to its own citizens that UK is a superpower with great influence, hoping they will overlook the shiit situation they are all in currently.
