Taiwan gets very worried as they thought China has no way to catch up, not in another 50-70 years.
Now the U.S. wants Korea and Taiwan join Chip 4 Alliance to stop them selling chips to China. The problem is China is the biggest customer of both Korea and Taiwan. Last year 90% Taiwan made chips were exported to China and 45% Korean made chips were exported to China. Stop exporting chips to China will kill the lifelines for both.
