In an interview with Bloomberg Television on Monday, Lam said she was “duty bound to protect my people” with travel restrictions even as other finance centers such as Singapore open up and shift to a strategy of living with the virus.

“Any fatality or increase in fatality will cause a major concern in society,” Lam said. While she acknowledged concerns over travel by the business community, she said most companies were in Hong Kong in order to access the mainland.

Delta variant came to Singapore in a big way because leaders wanted to keep open for South Asian visitors.

Once delta spread they decided to go for living with covid strategy when vaccination reach 80% ...I.e untaxed 20%.

The health risk of contracting the virus was unchanged through out the period. The number of unvaxed at 20% matters as it I still significant. Opening up and letting the number of cases increase will risk many people. It's not only death but Long covid which affects 10% or more of people infected including mild and asymptomatic cases.

If lives of people matter, there is really no choice...until science hand us a choice through better vaccines and treatment comes along.

Because we wish to open up ...because we wish to have a better economy....we decided to open up and expect the virus to play along to give us good outcomes?...this is wishful thinking not logical decision making.

10% Long covid is 580,000 people affected in the long term.

Long term and far sighted thinking is crucial in this pandemic. Taking some short term pain and economic cost im return for long term well being may be the most prudent approach.
