I go by the other reader reasoning. Lion is male. Lioness is female. So merlion is male. But I cannot find the merlion bird bird did the creators forgot to put on?

The Spore merlion is male since it has the typical "bushy" hairdo.
Female lion don't have these hair that stretches around the neck.

I would think the merlion creator had forgotten to add in 2 arms, resulting in a handicapped arm-less merlion.

Mermaids have 2 arms and the merlion depicted in the Norfolk County Council Coat of arms also has 2.
