I had a good friend in secondary skool.  His surname was Lim.  But his younger sisters were Lee.  For many years we wondered but he always demurred from answering when we asked him why. 

Some years later, he shared that his biological family give him away to their relatives when young.  That is why he was still able to retain his surname Lim while his adoptive dad’s surname is Lee.
