Ignorance is bliss. He thought he had done the good deed of compassion and felt at peace and happy. That is most important.   

This is the most important to you and him.
This is in fact a deception.
You need knowledge before you do good.  Doing evil, even if it's done in ignorance, and deriving joy out of it, is not the Way of the Buddha. 

A person like you....it's better for the world if you die sooner than soon.
