The current state of public healthcare here means more S'poreans will turn to the private sector. The free market in health care is one of the main reasons for the phenomenal rise in charges. In the presence of imperfect competition, medical care must not be dependent on market forces.  The sick are at the mercy of their doctors as they may not be in the correct frame of mind nor possess the required time and knowledge to compare prices.
