You are talking about obscure sects that do not exist today? 

Judaism also does not believe in Jesus....

One sect did not get wiped out...it grew to over a billion strong.

We do not know if they were an obscure sect. It could be they were the majority because of what we know about them, that they were poor, the peasants. But somehow, they were a threat to a different Christian sect that was more powerful than them, more atas.

The point is, that Muslims are not the first people to believe what we believe about Jesus.
