A coach is only as good as the players he has at his disposal. The successful football clubs have the money to recruit the best talents, but national teams are confined to footballers who qualify to represent their countries. Some nations have resorted to naturalisation i.e. selecting players with at least 1 parent or grandparent from that country, those who have played for a club in that country's league for at least 5 years or individuals fast tracked to citizenship. S'pore has not done much much as far as strengthening the national squad is concerned.
