The response from Doha comes a day after Israel’s parliament gave preliminary approval to a bill that would give the UN’s Palestinian refugee agency the label. The bill was approved in a first reading and sent to a committee for further deliberation. It is the latest move by Israel to sanction the agency. Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement, called the bill a “flagrant violation of international laws and norms, and an extension of the systematic campaign that aims to disband the agency, at a time when there is an increasing need for its humanitarian services due to the catastrophic consequences of the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip”.
