Myanmar distributes donated rice to flood-hit areas; many people without food due to heavy flooding. YANGON (Xinhua): A total of 1,002.71 tons of reserved rice was being distributed through the ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve program to flood-affected areas in Myanmar, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation on Monday.
A total of 250 tons of reserved rice was allocated to Yangon region, 250 tons to Bago region and 250 tons to Ayeyarwady region, while 252.71 tons of rice was allocated to Mandalay region, U Hla Tun, deputy permanent secretary of the ministry, told Xinhua. There are two distribution plans: the 7-day plan benefits over 200,000 people, and the 14-day plan helps over 100,000 people, he added.
"Our country is at high risk for disasters, so this program is particularly beneficial," he said.
