2024 campaign: Harris to visit southern border while Trump meets with Zelensky.
CNN: Updated Fri September 27, 2024
• Harris heads to the border: Vice President Kamala Harris plans to go on the offensive against former President Donald Trump on immigration Friday when she visits the US southern border in Arizona for the first time as the Democratic nominee, campaign aides told CNN, as she tries to close the gap with Trump on the issue.
• Trump to meet with Zelensky: Trump met with President Volodymyr Zelensky this morning in New York, amid GOP tensions over Ukraine assistance and a day after the leader met with Harris at the White House. Trump emphasized a “very good relationship” with Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, and said “we can work out something that’s good for both sides.” In the afternoon, Trump is campaigning in the key state of Michigan as he looks to block Harris’ path in the blue wall.
• A tight race: New polls in three critical battleground states in the Sun Belt — Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina — find no clear leader in the presidential race as national polls also show an exceedingly tight race just five weeks until Election Day.
VP debate: Meanwhile, GOP vice presidential nominee JD Vance and his Democratic counterpart Tim Walz are preparing to face off in their first debate on Tuesday. Walz is expected to hunker down in Michigan for “debate camp,” while Vance enlists allies for intense debate prep sessions.
