I don't find NS disruptive. It's one of the best programmes that give Singaporeans a break from work and help us stay physically fit. In addition, employees continue to be paid during reservist.

As employer, it is understood employees do take annual leave. Why is it disruptive when it comes to reservist?

After hearing what Kok Song said, I have written off TKL completely because all his supporters are from oppie political parties. I do not intend to vote for someone who is backed by oppies parties.

Are we training reservists with latest technology such as how to operate drones etc? Some treats reservist duty like holiday camp. A good job break.
Just take Ukraine war as an example, modern warfare is about advance technology.

Indeed Reservist is a burden for males in Singapore.

Only those who previously were regulars would be happy about it. Usually, they worked in government-linked companies. These ex-regulars will be happy when there is a break for them.

Tharman should have been an obvious candidate to succeed Lee. But in 2008 Lee declared that only a candidate from Singapore’s majority Chinese community was acceptable. This verdict was confirmed in 2019 by Lee’s then-designated successor, Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat. In the same year, Tharman stepped down as Deputy Prime Minister to make way for Heng. This is the lot of a talented Indian in Singapore’s supposedly meritocratic society.

On 8 June 2023, Tharman announced that he was stepping down from Cabinet to run for President later in the year. This should not have been a surprise, given that he had no prospect of advancement in Cabinet.

Despite being a notionally apolitical position, the presidency has become something of a sinecure for former Deputy Prime Ministers amenable to a lucrative soft landing. There are a set of reserve powers attached to the position, but there is no clear mechanism for these to be exercised, so the role is not very onerous.

The choice of Tharman for President arguably solves several problems for PM Lee.

I worked for a Hongkonger company for a long time in the past.
Competing with Singaporean, Hongkongers and Chinese. 

Hongkong boss see results. Profiteering. 
They never compare my reservist leaves vs the non Singaporean peers.
As long as I can meet targets, bring in the $. The company need me.

In actual fact, those days, we work long hours and on standby 24/7. That is the expectation for earning higher salary.

I have not worked for a Hong Kong boss before but worked with one, and spoke a fair amount of Cantonese.

Amdk and Japanese FTs had been earning expat pay for a long time since the 1960s, 1970s. It is with foreigners who come from 3rd world countries which some or many peepur cannot accept.. to be earning expat salaries. 

To them, Indians are for doing road works. Those from the Philippines are to only be Filipina maids. Vietbu are for piak piak after massage. Atb are for.. better don't say. The wumao brigade is here.

Don’t talk nonsense.... he didn’t say to stop or scrape NS.... he suggests to reduce the term of National Service.... go check other countries which has mandatory military service.... some I know are as follows
Taiwan = I year
South Korea = 18 months ( can delay military service until age 30)
Brazil = 1 year 
Cyprus = 14 months
Iran = 18 months
Switzerland = 21 weeks of basic military training

Did you work in HR or at least the payroll department?

How do you know that foreigners are getting the same salaries as Singaporesns? If you are going to tell me that it's your suspicion and you have never seen the payroll records of any company, may I suggest that you stop spreading falsehoods.

I dun know if foreigners are getting the same pay, but I do know that what is in place now is not enough to deter employers from taking the easy way out and out sinkie men in a disadvantage at workplace. That itself is good enough.

And what falsehood am I spreading? 1. Company shipping foreigners to sinkie land? 2. They enjoy local pay? U from India come sinkie land I pay u yr India pay, u want to take up the job?
