仅2小时！原世界纪录是3小时3分

在此之前，世界上快速交会对接最短用时纪录是在2020 年 10 月 14 日由俄罗斯联盟号飞船 MS-17 创造的 。当时这艘载人飞船耗费3 小时 3 分钟，在绕地球飞行了两圈后便与国际空间站实现对接。

　　而中国此前的快速交会对接任务，最快也需要耗费6.5 小时。据了解，与此前相比，此次创造新纪录的天舟五号主要从两方面进行了方案的调整，从而进一步缩短了交会对接的时间。首先，在此次任务中优化了交会对接的控制制导策略，将远距离导引过程中的多圈次飞行压缩为半圈，将多次变轨压缩为了两次综合机动，该部分用时由原来的约 4 个多小时减少到约 1 个小时。其次是在近距离自主控制段，减少了多个用以确认飞船状态的停泊点，这就类似于动车组减少经停车站次数一样， 从而加快了抵达的速度。这个程序段的时长于是由 2 个多小时缩短为约 40 分钟。

53 years later, there is not a single active US spacecraft on the Moon, while the Chinese has 2 operational rovers and landers on both opposite ends of the lunar surface.

Guess it is the effort of all the Chinese engineers to achieve this direct docking of Tianzhou without orbiting several times around Earth for orbit adjustment.

Both the Chinese space station (CSS) and ISS orbit at around 400km above Earth at an astonishing speed of 28,000 km/h.
To propel Tianzhou precisely to this speed, I believe the rocket must executes all its maneuvers (boosters, stage 1 and 2 separations) with clockwork precision.  Any slower speed will miss the CSS, while a faster speed will crash Tianzhou into the space station. And the cargo ship is quite heavy actually.

Its cargo load of 6.7 tonnes also sets another record (Russian Progress cargo module only managed 2.5 tonnes, while it is 3.3 tonnes for SpaceX Dragon 2).

Understand - The interviewed engineer explained the 2-hr delivery secret is down to the timing with the CSS orbital position tracking, automated system and launch vehicle reliability.  This wouldn't be possible if there is a human in the loop. Of course all that depends on weather condition.

I notice there is a difference between Mengtian and Tianzhou (TZ) launches -  in the later, no one is seen pressing the 点火 button when countdown to zero.

Can see what this means - the Chinese has shown confidence in their latest generation of launch vehicles from large CZ-5 and new workhorse CZ-7 rockets. All these will mean not just completing their 1st CSS construction in low orbit, but indicate their next effort will be focused on further destinations for manned missions...like the Moon and Mars.

The TZ-7 record breaking mission may show its competitiveness in international market for fast and reliable satellite delivery.
