Thread starter must be smiling to himself as impressively large postings and a wide readership have made this thread of his a thread-topper in such a brief span of time, never mind sgtalkers are treading on dangerous ground. He's hoping it will run on and on till the posters have exhausted the topic. Only then will it drift into oblivion. It was just dumb luck that posters deviated from the original god-awful topic about gays and started talking about religion, a perennially popular subject.

Is discussing religion strictly forbidden? Remember Racial Harmony Day? It commemorates the largest race riot here between Malays and Chinese which resulted in 36 people being killed, around 600 injured and 3000 rioters arrested. After the dust had settled, the authorities stressed the need for tolerance between races in our high-pressure, multi-racial, heterogeneous society. Safeguards and measures were implemented to maintain racial and religious harmony.

Religious leaders of the mainstream religions were encouraged to gather together and engage in inter-faith dialogue and exchange views with one another. Well, I gather the clergy may have a weak understanding of one another, and they may have actively disliked and yet mutually agreed to put up with one another in the name of religious tolerance. Some of the problems could be seen here in microcosm.

There's no reason to be fearful if we engage in a muted discussion, even more so if you aren't a heterodox religious thinker preaching dangerous heretical ideas. We can also switch back and forth between topics, something akin to what we're doing now - treading lightly and chat about anodyne things like food. This will go some way towards maintaining cordial relations.

When deliberating whether a blasphemer is guilty as sin, people usually scrutinize the phrasing of the comment made, and they do not question whether a blasphemer is sincere or insincere. Only God looks at the attitude of a man's heart. You're right, for us those things are not definable.
