How would anyone who earns more than $55k per month understand why people have difficulty coming up with $100k for the sers top up?? They easily buy a few HDB flat each year when they are in office. That's why HDB flats are affordable and they limit themselves from buying HDB.

Be grateful that the lords even bother to address this. The chief lord in that GRC doesn't even see the need to come out and say anything. Lol

The problem is with the housing price. Last time, when the housing price was low, SERS is just old house change to a new house without the need to fork out any money. Now because the housing price had ballooned to an unsustainable level, all future SERS will have this issue of having to top up cash.

When you want to be a politician be like a politician.  Don't use political as a means to make yourself a rich person. I can't find any good politician in our party.  What do you think?

Sinkies were pushovers in the past. If govt wanted land, sinkies would just be resigned to their fate.

Nowadays different. Home prices are so high. If residents just simply roll over, they will have no flat to live in. Topping up 100k is no chicken feed.

to expect those residents who had been living there for 40+ years to come up 100k top up, miw must be crazy.
probably, most are senior citizens, how to cough out such big sum of $.
this amount is not peanut to commoners lah, miw please wake up lah.
unless, unless their children are doing very well and willing to help.

Let's be objective. Most people want sers. Why not? You top up some money and you get a brand new flat with a fresh 99-year lease. It's unfair to say that it's a bad deal for residents.

It may be that some old folks are not able to fork out the money. Then fine. Cut the lease period. Win win for both sides. They get to continue to get their new flats while other residents who wish for sers benefit also.

I don't support PAP, but I also don't believe in criticising them purely for the sake of criticising.
