Ukraine begins strikes on Russian soil using US weapons. 2 attacks in the past week suggest lifting of restrictions has allowed Ukraine a more effective defence.

7 Jun 2024. Ukraine may have realised the first benefits of being allowed to strike Russian territory with Western weapons last week. On May 26 & 27, France & Germany said they allowing Ukraine to use their weapons against targets on Russian soil, following Russia’s new offensive against Kharkiv on May 10.

US sources told media on May 30. US was allowing Ukraine to use its weapons “for counter-fire purposes in Kharkiv”. That suggsition from which incoming fire had originated, but not to use its intelligence to target weapons systems and troop concentrations pre-emptively.

“This US ambiguity misses an opportunity to deter Russian preparations for offensive operations elsewhere across the border into northern Ukraine,” said the Institute for the Study of War, a Washington-based think-tank.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy last week reported concentrations of troops north of the Ukrainian city of Sumy. Ukraine’s first declared strike on Russian soil with Western weapons last Friday may been based on a misunderstanding.

“Defence Forces of Ukraine attacked Kerch ferry crossing with ATACMS [US Army Tactical] missiles, which was actively used by enemy to secure its grouping of troops in temporarily occupied Crimea.”

President Joe Biden apologized to Volodymyr Zelensky for aid delays from US on Friday, telling Ukrainian leader "we're not going to walk away from you." Western leaders vouched their support for Zelensky, who compared his country's fight against Russia with Allied forces' resistance to Nazi Germany in World War II.

Politicians & veterans gathered in France for the 80th anniversary of D-Day came as Moscow's forces sweep through northeastern Kharkiv region, with Ukraine firing back into Russia using Western weapons. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin made an address in St.Petersburg. He is set to present his “vision current situation in the world economy and politics."

US President Joe Biden is scheduled to arrive at Pointe du Hoc, in Normandy in minutes, as Western leaders mark anniversary of the largest Allied forces' operation against Nazi Germany in World War II. The U.S leader will draw parallels between more than 150,000 allies troops who fought for liberation of Europe from Adolf Hitler's Nazis on June 6, 1944, & Ukraine's present fight against Russia's raging 27-mth invasion.

Responding as millions of people flee war in Ukraine. The intense fighting and shelling have led to 7.8 million people leaving Ukraine becoming refugees across Europe.

Within Ukraine, over 6.5 million people remain displaced by the war. MSF teams had been working in eastern Ukraine and have now suspended our usual medical activities, including our HIV and tuberculosis programmes.

As war continues across Ukraine and people flee, our teams are responding to a severe humanitarian crisis, both in Ukraine and in neighbouring countries.

As cross Ukraine, folks in cities under attack face incredible hardship; as often live without electricity, food or clean water, or medicines. Hospitals are consistently in danger of running out of supplies, especially for those for surgical, trauma, emergency room & intensive care unit. However, other medical items including insulin for diabetes patients, medicines for patients with chronic diseases, asthma, hypertension or HIV.

Oct airstrikes has severely damaged Ukraine’s infrastructure - nearly half of power grid in need of repair, consequences are recurring emergency blackouts, rolling power cuts in some parts of the country, attacks coincide with onset of winter  can impacts Ukraine’s healthcare system ehh. Undecided

Some large hospitals have been able to run on generators or back-up power, but ongoing military strikes hitting energy infrastructure make this less & less secure. Areas small health facilities has great challenge work for healthcare staff b4 it increase in difficult, those close to frontline have been left without electricity, gas or heating for mths.

Town of Vovchansk northern Kharkiv liberated from Russian occupation 18 mths ago, awoke Friday to intense shelling and aerial bomb. Russia has found another way of stretching Ukraine’s already thin blue line.

Zelensky said Russian efforts to advance towards town had been thwarted & since tried to cut road links with Vovchansk. Russians battalion-strength attacks on 60 k/m stretch the border Friday, Russian claiming to occupy several villages known as ‘gray zone’ along frontier, focusing much of their offensive capabilities this yr, grinding advance in Donetsk in east that has seen incremental but slow progress.

As of Sat, it appeared Russians held a handful of Ukrainian border villages, with intense aerial bombardment continuing in Vovchansk area. The cross-border attack is another eg of what’s going on for Ukrainians this year forces are thinly stretched, less artillery than Russians, the lack of soldiers, inadequate air defenses & Plight has been worsened by dry weather, allowing Russian mechanized to move easily.

The northern border assault follows creation of a new Russian military group called Sever [North].  George Barros at the Institute for the Study of War in Washington told CNN that Sever is an “operationally significant group. It’s from this new force units of armored infantry tried to cross the border. Available evidence suggests they were expected & suffered significant losses. But if more elite units join (there are reports that elements from other divisions may do so) Russia’s ambitions could grow.

As a Ukrainian special forces unit told CNN this weekend, “This is only the beginning, the Russians have a bridgehead for further offensives.” “Russia sought to send 60,000-100,000 troops for its group to attack Kharkiv and we assess it’s closer to 50,000,” Barros says, but “it still has a lot of combat power.”

Updated Sat May 11, 2024 -- Russia mounts surprise assault on northern front. For Ukraine, May is turning out to be the cruellest month, town of Vovchansk northern Kharkiv region, liberated from Russian occupation more than 18 mths ago, awoke Friday to intense shelling and aerial bombardment.

Russia has found another way of stretching Ukraine’s thin blue line as Russians launched battalion-strength attacks along 60-k/m stretch claiming to occupy a few villages, what is known as ‘gray zone’ along frontier, after focusing much of their offensive capabilities, on Sat it appeared the Russians still held a handful of Ukrainian border villages, with intense aerial bombardment continuing in the Vovchansk area. Deputy head of Ukrainian Defense Intelligence, a Major-General told Economist last week: “Our problem is very simple: we have less weapons. They always knew April ,,& May would be a difficult time for us.”

Ukrainian intelligence estimates immense losses since full-scale invasion by Russia, they has more than half-a-mil men inside Ukraine or at its borders is also “generating a division of reserves” in central Russia, according to Skibitsky.

A former Ukrainian officer who writes on conflict on blog Frontelligence says “Manpower shortages compel Ukraine to avoid deploying large units continuously, with fully stock coming & ready for immediate-use artillery.” He expects situation to evolve, “as Russian forces deploying more units to penetrate additional border areas or to reinforce initial successes.”

Several analysts expect the Russians to broaden the border attacks westwards to Sumy region, which has seen months of raids by Russian special forces.

New war video by Ukraine appears to show a US-M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicle shooting at a Russian armored personnel carrier at point-blank range, 2 vehicles race toward each other at high speed on country road, launch continuous fire. At one moment, they come within a few feet of one another, narrowly avoiding collision. Soldiers are seen falling from the Russian armored car before it swerves off the road and appears to come to a stop, smoke billowing from its rear. A caption accompanying video reads: "soldiers of 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade holding back at least three Russian combat brigades. With huge manpower reserves, Muscovites are replenishing their heavy losses, throwing them back into battle, fighting does not stop for a moment."

Ukrainian website Militarnyi reports Russian vehicle was a BTR-82A, built with a 30mm machine gun. DeepState, a Telegram analytics channel tracks battlefield events, said video was taken on eastern outskirts of Sokil in Ukraine's Donetsk oblast, not far from Chasiv Yar.
Channel stated brigade's spokesperson, Russian APC "subsequently exploded on mines laid by Ukraine's Defence Forces." This 2nd video in as many weeks, 47th Mechanized Bridge demo what Bradley's Bushmaster M242 25mm automatic cannon can do in close combat. The 1st, published June 2, appeared to show a Bradley firing at two Russian personnel carriers. Russian soldiers can be seen dismounting & fleeing the vehicles. US Dept has provided Ukraine "more than 300 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicles" since Russia war.

The Bradley IFV is an armored vehicle used for transporting troops & provide fire support, also sometimes used for reconnaissance mission. Bradley is quick, highly maneuverable. It operated by 3-person crew, a driver, a commander &  gunner, can carry upto half a dozen fully equipped soldiers. Pentagon Air Force Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said previously, he told reporters at a briefing, the Bradley is "not a tank, but it's a tank killer."

Ukraine saying may have destroyed Russia's last cruise missile carrier based out of Crimea

The good news is each Su-57 loss is hard to replenish; the bad news is that targeting factory 8,000 km away is too much of a challenge for now. After news on the first-ever combat loss of a russian Su-57 at Akhtubinsk airfield, the next logical question is whether it is possible to use the same drones to attack the place where this type of aircraft is produced. And a bonus question: what could be the logic behind Ukraine's attempt to destroy a Su-57, apart from fact that it is a valuable rare asset of the russian air force?

In fact, the 2nd one will be the easiest to answer. Defense Intelligence of Ukraine emphasized in its report about today's strike that russian Su-57s are, crucially, carriers of Kh-69 cruise missiles. The attack missiles of this type, for example, were used to destroy the Trypilska thermal power plant in April 2024, situated near Kyiv, Ukraine.

GENEVA: Ahead of the first summit on peace in Ukraine, Kyiv said on Tuesday (Jun 11) it wanted Russia to attend a second summit, to receive an internationally agreed roadmap towards ending the conflict.

Moscow said it had no interest in joining this weekend's meeting and so was not invited by hosts Switzerland, while Ukraine wants to get some concrete outcomes from the meeting to take forward to the second summit.

Andriy Yermak, the head of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's office, said the "bad experience" of previous negotiation formats involving Moscow, prior to Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, meant that the end to the war needed to be built on a broad platform of support from the outset - and be rooted in international law.

"For the second summit, we will be working with all colleagues, with all countries who will be interested to be involved," Yermak told European media organisations, via video-link from Berlin.

Monday Mr Zelensky said Ukraine was continuing "counter-strike activities" in Kharkiv region. A ok to strike Russia came nearly 2 weeks after US & other Western nations gave go-ahead to hit targets inside Russia near Kharkiv. President Zelensky encouraging European nations to support invest and weapon to Ukraine.

We will finish this war, in the interests of all of us, of all Europe. We will finish this war according to our conditions,” Ukraine 'just attack missile launch sites in Russia he said." You can understand why we are fighting so hard against Russia's attempts to divide us, to divide Ukraine.

Why we are doing absolutely everything to prevent a wall between parts of our country," he said, in reference to the Berlin Wall. He warned of danger to European Union of pro-Russian rhetoric, days after far right parties, some of which are pro-Russian, made gains in EU elections.

US support for Ukraine adapt as conditions have changed, battlefields change, as Russia does has changed in terms of how ipursuing its aggression escalation, we’ve adapted adjusted too,” Blinken said on Wednesday on a visit to Moldova. “I am confident we will continue to do that.”  As key European leaders signaled they had shifted position. Speaking at conference alongside German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, French President Emmanuel Macron outlined French weapons sent to Ukraine, including long-range missiles, were permitted to target bases inside Russia.

“Ukrainian soil is being attacked from bases in Russia,” Macron said during a visit to Schloss Meseberg in Brandenburg, Germany. “we explain to Ukrainians, we’re to have to protect basically everything we’re seeing around Kharkiv at the moment, if we tell them you are not allowed to hit the point from which the missiles are fired?”

Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR), in comments, news agency Ukrinform, said Russian navy commanders selected Sea of Azov for surface warship maneuvers b'cos open waters of Black Sea have long been lethal for fleet ops & Kremlin attempting to “hide” ships in waters out Kyiv’s reach. Kyiv’s intention is to strike wherever the BSF retreats, and hunt down the rest, he said.

They are trying to hide big ships, so we are going after the smaller ones,“We are going to keep hunting.” June 6, Ukrainian USV penetrated into Pankse Lake, an almost totally-landlocked bay on northwestern shore of the Crimean Peninsula, rammed and destroyed a Russian naval tugboat.
Also special ops teams, an elite Ukrainian naval strike group, used MAGURA kamikaze sea drones run down, ram & sink two Russian KC-701 Tunets-class patrol cutters operating near Kerch Strait.

The Russian warships’ mission had been, in part, to prevent or block Ukrainian USV attacks in the area and against targets further north. Russia’s most serious single naval loss of the war took place on April 14, 2022, a pair of Ukrainian anti-ship missiles sank the BSF flagship, cruiser Moskva. Ukraine has sunk roughly a third of BSF warships. To most military analysts, Ukraine scored another major naval victory in September 2023 with a series of missile and drone strikes targeting BSF main base at Sevastopol, attacks over a period of almost 3-weeks ended with one heavy assault ship sunk, one missile submarine destroyed, at least 1 heavy assault ship damaged. Russian navy most part abandoned Sevastopol in Oct – for the first time since 1941.

Russian spoken at that time said submarine, the Rostov-Na-Danu, was only moderately damaged and would quickly return to sea operations.

Continue from follower above....In act, hulk of submarine remained where it had been hit until June 9, 2024, when repair teams towed it to Sevastopol’s 13th Ship Repair Factory and covered it with tarps. The pro-Ukrainian Crimea partisan group, Krmsky Veter, spotted and published images of a pair of repair barges underneath the canvas.

In 2023 Russia declared all civilian cargo traffic in the Black Sea subject to BSF search and seizure, and all Ukrainian ports under full blockade. Ukraine and its Western allies responded by routing ship traffic along the Black Sea’s western shoreline, where BSF ships would either have to violate NATO nation territorial waters or come into range of land-based anti-ship missiles. The Kremlin later announced it was canceling the “blockade” to allow grain to reach world markets and prevent hunger.

Since President Joe Biden given permission to Ukraine to strike inside Russian territory with American munitions, Kyiv can only hit targets over the border close to Kharkiv to stop Russia advances around  city northeastern part of the country close to the Russian border, he has directed his team to ensure Ukraine is able to use US supplied-weapons for counterfire purposes in Kharkiv, so Ukraine can defence their back against Russian forces who came hitting them anytime  hitting them,” officials said.

This loosening restrictions marks a break from long-standing policy comes amid growing international pressure from close US allies. But it is limited to area around Kharkiv, Ukraine has not requested permission beyond that, official said, adding that they do not anticipate the US widening the area allowed.

Secretary of State Antony Blinken confirmed on decision had been made following a request from Ukraine. “Over few weeks ago, Ukraine came to us, asked for authorization weapons used provided to defend against this aggression” near Kharkiv, “including against Russian forces as they massing on Russian side of border,” Blinken said at a news conference in Prague.

The top US diplomat said the request went to Biden, and he approved their use for that purpose. Blinken said US would continue to “adapt and adjust and where" they are moving forward.

President Volodymyr Zelensky on June 14 rejected Russian President Vladimir Putin's conditions for peace talks, comparing them to Adolf Hitler's invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1938-1939.

Putin is still dreaming so early June 14 as a condition to talk about peace, (NO PEACE TALK) for negotiations, the mad man said. Ukrainian troops must leave Ukraine's Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts. He also added that Ukraine must recognize Russia's illegal annexation of the regions and abandon any ambition to join NATO. (Sama Sama, same as like Israel talking to the terror Hamas).

According to Putin, Ukraine also must recognize Russia's annexation of Crimea.

Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia oblasts are partially controlled by Russian troops. Russia claims to have annexed the whole territory of those regions despite not controlling two regional capitals - Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.
