For the scammed victim they had reported of transactions that went in the thousands and tens of thousands? How could it have gone thru if the default is 5k?

Because the scammers increased the limits. They also activated the digital token in their own phone bypassing sms otp. That's why victims don't know.

So safest still physical tokens but very inconvenient.
