The Quran says "ask those.. ". We can assume "those" were people like Abdullah bin Salam.

It never say Salam...why must Muhammad check with those who recognise his prophethood? Where did the Quran says that .

When the Quran says, "ask those who read the scripture..", it can only refer to those who read the scriptures before the Muslims there, ie. the Israelites. And it also means the Israelites who were with them because the other Israelites were hostile to the Muslims.

 A church can be make shift if the numbers of followers are small...a christian can pray anywhere..

For Muhammad to check if the message from Allah is good..he needs to check with previous scriptures if it is in line, because he is illiterate, he needs the "muhaymin" of someone who have read the books...that is common sense...
