Slovakia likely to hand over MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine

A Russian soldier who was captured by Ukrainian forces says he realised he was on the wrong side when his favourite boxers took up arms to defend their country from invaders.
Lieutenant Colonel Astakhov Dmitry Mikhailovich begged for forgiveness in a press conference after he was captured, saying he was under the impression Ukraine was under the grip of a fascist regime.

The war in Ukraine has been a brutal grind of artillery, destruction, and attrition—but in the chaos, some moments stand out as turning points. One of the most daring examples came near Picrosk, where Ukraine’s elite Azov Brigade turned a routine Russian patrol into a devastating defeat.

In this video, we break down the ambush step by step:

How Ukrainian intelligence tracked and exposed Russian vulnerabilities

The meticulous planning of the Azov fighters, from sniper nests to mines and drone surveillance

The precise execution that turned terrain, timing, and discipline into total dominance

The aftermath that shook Russian morale, sparked debates, and boosted Ukraine’s strategic position

This wasn’t just another skirmish—it was a masterclass in modern warfare. A small, determined force reshaped the battlefield with courage, preparation, and precision.

🔥 Watch until the end to see why the Picrosk ambush is already being remembered as a symbol of resistance and strategy in the Ukraine war.

Russia’s once-vast tank reserves are running dry. Minute ago...On his 73th birthday. Putin's army repoered suffered significant losses in the battle for Dnipropetrovsk Oblast in the Novopavlovka sector. It's possible that this is why the Kremlin is transferring some of its troops from Sumy Oblast and Pokrovsk to Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.

The press service of the 110th Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported on the results of September.
It is known that the 5th Army of the Russian Federation suffered losses amounting to 1,848 occupiers, of which 734 were eliminated. The 127th Motorized Rifle Division suffered the most losses – 1,215 Russian servicemen. The 110th Brigade stated that the 127th Motorized Rifle Division is the enemy's strike force in the Novopavlovsk direction. The heaviest losses were recorded in the 114th and 394th Motorized Rifle Regiments. There are also losses in the tank regiment, which weakens the armored component of Putin's army. It is possible that, given the heavy losses, the Kremlin is transferring new troops to the Novopavlovsk direction. An OSINT analyst at Unit Observer reported the transfer of the 90th Tank Division from the southern part of Pokrovsk. The 35th, 55th, 74th and 137th brigades of the Russian Armed Forces were also transferred from Pokrovsk.

Here, instead of fighting the Russians one on one, Ukrainians are creating yet another fire pocket around a crucial Russian-controlled town in Sumy Oblast. Launching the second stage of the offensive, Ukrainian special forces are advancing the line in the forest, while Russian soldiers are killed by their own for attempting to surrender.

Ukrainian forces are using their proven formula with a simple yet effective goal: take the Russian ground lines of communication under fire control, isolate and starve the Russians in Yunakivka, and then turn the trap into a kill zone without any chances of evacuation or rotation.  Russian commanders, bound by the obsession with holding territory at all costs, refuse to withdraw even from doomed positions, which the Ukrainians are counting on and more than ready to exploit.

Yunakivka’s open layout with scattered and burned-out buildings offers no cover and no reason for the Ukrainians to engage in a storming operation, which would only cost losses in an attritional battle that can hardly be won against an opponent with more troops on the ground. Russian drone footage shows the extent of destruction, confirming that Yunakivka is a battleground Ukrainians usually avoid in order to preserve personnel, and not waste them on frontal and grinding assaults. With the Russians switching to defensive operations in Yunakivka after their attempted push forward was annihilated by Ukrainian drones and artillery, the tempo of the battle has slowed down significantly, so the Ukrainian command started preparing their next move. Overall, as Ukrainian raids expand control of the forests and roads, the encirclement of Yunakivka is only a matter of time. Ukraine’s approach is precise, and each operation preserves Ukrainian lives while grinding down the Russian troops one pocket at a time. The new kill zone in Sumy is forming, and another enemy group is about to vanish inside it.

A Russian oil refinery in Bashkortostan Republic on the morning of Oct. 11, resulting in explosions and a fire, a source in the agency told the Kyiv Independent. The news comes as Ukraine escalates attacks against the Russian gas and oil industry, a key source of revenue helping Moscow sustain its all-out invasion. The strike targeted the Bashnafta-UNPZ plant in Ufa, a city that is one of Russia's largest centers for the refining industry, supplying fuel lubricants to the Russian Armed Forces, according to the source.Preliminary reports suggest that after several explosions, a fire broke out in the area of the crude-oil processing unit ELOU-AVT-6.

Source reported that a plume of black smoke was visible rising in the vicinity of the plant, and fire trucks were en route to the site. The extent of damage remains unclear. Russia's Defense Ministry claimed its forces downed five fixed-wing Ukrainian drones over Bashkortostan on Oct. 11. Regional authorities have not commented on possible damage or casualties. The attack against the facility, which lies approximately 1,400 kilometers (about 870 miles) from the front line in Ukraine, marks the third SBU drone strike against Bashkortostan in the past month.

SBU long-range drones previously struck the Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat petrochemical plant in the same region in two separate attacks on Sept. 18 and Sept. 24.

Another drone strike, carried out by Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR), hit the Bashneft-Novoyl refinery in Ufa on Sept. 12.

Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi said on Oct. 11 that Russia's oil processing capacity has dropped by 21% amid Ukrainian attacks. Several Russian regions are facing gasoline shortages as Moscow ramps up fuel imports.

Russia has also recently escalated attacks against Ukrainian energy infrastructure, causing massive blackouts in Kyiv and elsewhere in a drone and missile aerial strike on Oct. 10.

The Latvian government has ordered 841 Russian citizens to leave the country by Oct. 13, citing their failure to meet legal requirements, including proof of Latvian language proficiency and passing a national security screening, Politico reported on Oct. 10.

Latvia first went on to amended its immigration laws following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in early 2022. In 2024, the government introduced stricter rules governing the legal stay of Russian nationals.

Under the updated regulations, Russian citizens must obtain EU long-term resident status, demonstrate Latvian language proficiency at the A2 level, and pass a national security check by June 30, 2025. Roughly 30,000 Russian nationals were affected by the changes. While most have either complied with the new requirements or left voluntarily — around 2,600 in total — 841 individuals failed to submit the necessary documentation on time.

Chosun Ilbo, in the process of reporting on the interview with North Korean prisoners of war (POWs) deployed to Russia, has not disclosed their real names or revealed specific information that could lead to their identification. This measure was taken to protect the human rights of the prisoners in accordance with international laws regarding prisoners of war.

However, the Ukrainian government has already revealed the faces of the two individuals multiple times in photos and videos, and these images have been widely circulated worldwide for over a month.

After editorial discussions, it was concluded that applying a mosaic or other concealment methods would be ineffective, leading to the decision to use unaltered images and videos

A brief report from the front lines: Canadian volunteers received their baptism of fire alongside the 3rd Assault Brigade during fierce street fighting for Avdiivka. The operation took place at night under intense artillery, air strikes, and massive drone attacks—the enemy created a "curtain of fire" to prevent reinforcements from breaking through. Ukrainian units used M113s to advance to their positions, but the threat of drones and airstrikes forced the infantry to march several kilometers across open terrain. The battle was exhausting: constant shelling, mortars, and guided bombs, close-in explosions, and psychological and physical exhaustion. Canadian and Ukrainian soldiers demonstrated courage, risking their lives, evacuating the wounded under fire, and providing first aid on the spot.💥
