At last moment, b4 releasing their bombs, the planes climb.

The higher angle extra altitude extend—by miles—the range of the precision-guided munitions. A Hammer can travel farther than 40 miles under optimal launch conditions, but conditions over Ukraine are rarely optimal. It’s not for no reason that Ukrainian jets losses in the air are lower now than they were early in the year. The Ukrainian air force went to war with 43 flyable Su-25s, got an extra 18 airframes from Macedonia and Bulgaria and lost at least 20 of the jets in action, leaving at most 41 in service. Notably, just 3 or 4 of the losses occurred last year. It should come as no surprise that, in 2024, Ukrainian Su-25 apparently completed a major overhaul of tactics, ending the practice of close rocket attacks in favor of standoff bombing with Hammers glide bombs.

Sukhoi pilots are never safe while in air, they’re safer now than they were be4 wide adoption of glide munitions transformed, the aging Su-25s into precision bombers, glide bombs work so well with Ukrainian air force, is arming all of its older warplanes: Mikoyan MiG-29 fighters and Sukhoi Su-24 bombers in addition to Su-25s & Su-27s. Airforce’s newer, F-16s-made jets— & Dassault Mirage 2000s—should also be compatible with American and French glide bombs. Anticipating greater demand for the bombs, and also hedging against the possibility that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump reduces or halts American aid to Ukraine, the Ukrainians have developed a glide bomb of their own. That bomb was undergoing testing on an Su-24 as recently as September.

Talk of negotiations is an illusion'

Trump's promise to end conflict within 24 hours of taking office is a typically grandiose boast, comes from a man who has clearly lost patience with war & a U.S. America's costly involvement.

"Numbers of dead young soldiers lying on fields all over the place are staggering," "crazy what's taking place." Incoming US admin faces twin challenges, Michael Kofman, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
"First, they're going to inherit a war on a very negative trajectory, without tremendous amount of time to stabilise situation," he said in Dec. "2nd, they're going to inherit a clear theory of success."
The president-elect offered some clues during recent interviews about how he intends to approach the war.... crying Thinking

A well-known Ukrainian journalist, Yury Butusov, wrote on his Telegram channel the city of Kurakhove had been "effectively lost" to Russian forces. Ukrainian bloggers said servicemen had been subjected to constant fire from multiple rocket launchers and guided, or glide, bombs.
DeepState, a Ukrainian monitoring group that tracks the front line of the war using open sources, showed most of Kurakhove under Russian control at midday on Tuesday.
However, Ukraine has not acknowledged the capture of the town by Russian forces.

Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for Ukraine's Khortytsia group of forces, told Reuters news agency that, as of Monday morning, Ukrainian forces were still engaging Russian troops inside Kurakhove, is linked to Pokrovsk by roads that are part of the infrastructure to move troops and supplies along the front line, taking of Kurakhove would allow the Russians to go north to attack Pokrovsk from a new direction

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has revised his campaign promise to end the war in Ukraine within "24 hours," now suggesting a timeline of several months.

Euro officials view this adjustment as an indication, his admin will not immediately withdraw support for Kyiv. Two European officials told Financial Times recent discussions with Trump’s incoming team revealed no concrete plan to resolve war yet. They also emphasized U.S. assistance aids to Ukraine would persist following Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20.

"The whole [Trump] team is obsessed with strength and looking strong, so they’re recalibrating the Ukraine approach," one official said. Official added Trump’s camp is cautious about avoiding comparisons with Joe Biden’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, which they do not want to see replicated in Ukraine.

Earlier this week, Trump said a 6-month timeline was more realistic for ending war.
While, his designated envoy for Ukraine the U.S. A. 51th State's, Keith Kellogg, set a goal of resolving war within 100 days.

"I would like to set a goal on a personal and professional level — I would set it at 100 days and move all the way back," Kellogg told Fox News, "A figure a way we to do this in near term, to make sure solution is solid and it’s sustainable and that this war ends so that we stop the carnage."

Ukrainian troops captured two North Korean soldiers as prisoners of war (POWs) in Russia's Kursk Oblast, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Jan. 11.

"This task was not easy," he said in a Telegram.

"Usually, Russia and other North Korean military personnel finish off their wounded and do everything possible to ensure that no evidence of the participation of another state — North Korea — in the war against Ukraine is preserved."

The two wounded soldiers received necessary medical care and are in the custody of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in Kyiv, according to Zelensky. The president applauded Ukrainian paratroopers and soldiers from the Special Operation Forces for capturing the North Koreans.

North Korea deployed around 12,000 soldiers in Kursk Oblast, where Ukraine launched a surprise cross-border incursion in August 2024 to bring the war to Russia, a senior Ukrainian official familiar with the intelligence told the Kyiv Independent in December 2024.

The Details: One of the two captured North Korean soldiers, as reported by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy & also from Ukraine's Security Service on 11 January, carried a military ID card bearing the name Antonin Aranchin, a Tyva native born in October 1998.

The document reveals his birthplace (Turan, Tyva) civilian occupation (tailor). The military ID card does not include the holder's portrait, date, or signature.

Ukrainian Drones Flew 400 Miles To Double-Tap a Russian Bomber Base. Engels bomber base in the city of Saratov in southern Russia in at least 400 miles from Ukraine border. Fires have raged for a week Jan 14, 2025.

Engels is burning.Via Center for Strategic Communication. On Jan. 8, Ukrainian drones flew at least 400 miles to strike near the Russian air force’s Engels bomber base in the city of Saratov in southern Russia. The blasts triggered a blaze at a sprawling depot containing as much as 800,000 tons of fuel—a blaze that raged for days.
The fire finally burned itself out, or firefighters extinguished it, after six days. Hours later on Tuesday, drones struck a second time. “There will be no rest for the wicked,” the Ukrainian Center for Strategic Communication crowed. Tuesday attack was part of a wider wave of drone raids, reportedly the biggest of the 35-month wider war for Ukraine, that specifically targeted fuel and munitions storage and oil refineries, among other targets. Each damaged ammunition depot, refinery, tank farm or chemical plant weakens Russia’s ability to wage war against Ukraine,” the Ukrainian security service told Kyiv Post.

It’s unclear what types of drone were involved in the back-to-back attacks on Engels, but Kyiv Post mentioned the PD-2, Beaver, Liutyi and UJ-22—all of which are between six and 10 feet long and propeller-driven. Ukraine has developed a dizzying array of long-range unmanned aerial vehicles, including some based on modified sport planes that can range 800 miles with hundreds of pounds of explosives.
