Yet another Ukrainian unit has joined Ukraine’s invasion of Russia’s Kursk Oblast. On Sunday, the marine corps’ 501st Marine Battalion announced its presence in Kursk—in a video tearing down a Russian flag “in settlements of Kursk.” Battalion’s marines “are combat missions,” unit stated 501st Battalion has an unfortunate history of avoiding combat. In sense, Kursk campaign an opportunity for redemption 501st Marine.

It was a garrison in Crimea when Russian invaded strategic peninsula 2014. outgunned forces fled peninsula, just 64 of 501st Marine personnel joined, others potentially hundreds in all voluntarily stayed in Crimea, ministry rebuilt 501st Battalion. 8-years later, in early months of Russia’s wider invasion of Ukraine, battalion joined garrison in Mariupol on the Black Sea coast. Russian troops laid siege to Mariupol, ruthlessly starving &  bomb city’s as well as civilian population. The main garrison, about 2,000 strong held out for 3-mths, eventually falling back to Azovstal steel plant b4 finally surrendering late May 2022 when food, ammunition medicine ran out.

A Notorious Marine Battalion Has Joined Ukraine’s Invasion Of Russia federation after surrendering twice since 2014, the 501st Marine Battalion has a lot to prove.

Russian aggression has forced France to take steps to re-arm improve its ability to protect itself from conventional military threats, & committing resources to arm Ukraine is a key piece strategy, defense minister said during a meeting for hours.

Lecornu told France in 2024 intends manufacture 600 AASM guided bombs & production will double to 1,200 in 2025, and deliveries to Ukraine should continue as planned. One of most sophisticated bomb guidance systems manufactured, AASM or Armement Air-Sol Modulair is a guidance kit fitted to conventional bomb uses flip-out wings, a laser-seeker, inertial guidance, GPS positioning, movable control fins & a small rocket engine to fly a munition to precise locations.

Bomb performance depending on altitude of bomb drop, speed of aircraft, type of guidance available, & weight of munition, other factors. At maximum rated a “dumb” bomb fitted with an AASM guidance system could plant a powerful 250 kg munition within one meter of an aiming point, at a range in excess of 70 km.

Ukraine war latest: Russian pontoon crossing in Kursk Oblast 'disappears' in possible blast. One of at least two pontoon bridges built by Russia over the Seim River in Kursk Oblast is no longer visible in satellite imagery, and smoke was detected in the area, news came shortly after Ukraine allegedly struck third and final stationary bridge over river in Glushkovsky district, threatening to cut off Russian supply lines in the area amid Kyiv's ongoing incursion. All three targeted fixed bridges – is no longer visible as of Aug. 19.

Loss of the crossings across Seim River could present a serious challenge to Russian troops stationed in Glushkovsky district, who are lodged between river to the north, Ukraine's Sumy Oblast to the west and south, and Ukrainian-held territories of Kursk Oblast to the east.

Ukrainian Paratroopers May Have Surrounded Russian Soldiers In Kursk

A Russian propagandist claimed a cauldron has formed in Malya Loknya. Sound like Malaya. Rotfl

Allegedly attacking between Russian positions on the bleeding edge of Ukraine’s two-week-old invasion of Russia’s Kursk Oblast, a Ukrainian air assault brigade has reportedly cut off and surrounded a Russian formation—and inspired excited chatter on social media. Primary source for Yuriy Podolyak, a popular Russian propagandist. While propagandists aren’t normally known for their truthfulness & reliability, it’s worth paying attention when they relay bad news about their clients. Recent changes along front line in Kursk “are not in our favor,” Podolyak wrote on Tues (today) 21/Aug. Elements of the Ukrainian 95th Air Assault Brigade are “trying to take control of Malya Loknya,” 8-miles north of town of Sudzha, Ukrainian latest news..

In assaulting Malya Loknya, the 95th Air Assault Brigade “bypassed our positions between this village and Russkiy Porechny, cut road between them, and thus took units of the 18th Motor Rifle Division into an operational encirclement,” Podolyak claimed. There is evidence the 95th Air Assault Brigade is in Malya Loknya. A Ukrainian drone tracked one of the brigade’s German-made Marder fighting vehicles firing on Russian positions in the village on Monday.

A Russian general dismantled a council charged with overseeing security in Russia's Kursk Oblast in the spring, weakening border defenses before Ukraine's unprecedented incursion, WS Journal reported on Aug. 21. Citing an official in the Russian security services, the Colonel General Alexander Lapin claimed the Kremlin's military could effectively defend the border on its own. As a result, he dissolved an interagency council consisting of military officers and local and regional security officials which would have been tasked with helping Moscow form a coherent response to an incursion by Ukraine stresses Russia would likely still have struggled to respond events since unfolded in Kursk, it added to the confusion disorganization on show as Moscow has tried to oust Ukraine's army from Russian soil.

Ukraine Has its Foot on Gazprom’s Throat
The gas flow through Sudzha is 40-42 mil cubic meters per day, making it indispensable in the chain of Russian gas exports to Euro even more important to Gazprom, the gas giant financially humbled by the continent’s turn away from Kremlin energy. Given importance, the lack of control over Sudzha substantial risks to Russian. Gazprom now has no oversight of metering station where gas flow is measured, creating the risk of 3rd-party interference into metering equipment & preventing Gazprom personnel from performing standard maintenance procedures. In short, Gazprom no longer cab trust their system proves details a large part of its exports and it lose in its revenues.

The company is also obliged to provide metering documentation to Russian Customs and Fiscal Services so that it can pay tax. These issues alone could justify the declaration of force majeure and halting of gas flows, yet Gazprom has not taken this step. Analysts industry experts wondering Since company’s employees are no longer there, anyone can interfere with metering equipment, its executives can no longer rely on accuracy of the data produced. So why do they persist?

Financial implications for Gazprom a major factor. Company reported loss of 0.5tn rubles ($5.4bn) in first half of 2024 alone, $5bn a year in revenue from gas sales to European Union (EU).

Continue...from above....msg detailed that on Aug. 15, following successful counterattacks, brigade seized back from Russian defense positions, including platoon & company strongholds, pushing deep into enemy lines, fforce ratio on the battlefield was 2.5 to 1 in favor of the enemy, with additional enemy support forces,” treereport said. Colonel Andriy Biletsky, the brigade commander, revealed that the operation’s primary goal was to diminish the offensive capabilities of the Russian 20th Army.“For now, this objective has been achieved,” he said. According to the Third Assault Brigade, within four days, the Russian forces suffered the loss of around 300 personnel and significant damage to their equipment and weapons.“The uniqueness of this operation was that we attacked a superior enemy and emerged victorious,” Biletsky added. He credited the success to meticulous planning, unconventional tactics, and the coordinated efforts of artillery, air defense, intelligence, and more.

The true heroes of the battlefield were the tank crews, sappers, scouts, and, above all, the assault troops,” the brigade commander reported.

The account said that operational details had been kept confidential for security reasons – with the assault relieving pressure from other critical areas of the front line by diverting Russian forces from the Makiivka direction.

On Wednesday, Aug. 14, the Kharkiv operational-tactical group reported that Russian forces had regrouped assault units in central Vovchansk, intending to continue their offensive.
On August 13, Russian forces carried out 13 separate attacks on AFU positions in the Kharkiv direction. However, according to the Kharkiv operational-tactical group, Ukrainian troops successfully repelled all Russian attempts to advance. On the morning of Thursday, Aug. 22, the brigade’s Telegram channel published a video with the caption: “Somewhere in the Kharkiv region. The first footage of the offensive in full swing. More details to follow.”  Video, whose location and time Kyiv Post could not independently verify, showed active assault operations, explosions, and close combat engagements.

“Try to secure the defensive line at the edge of that fu*king forestry plantation in front of the field,” a Ukrainian serviceman is heard saying on a walkie-talkie while monitoring his comrades’ actions via a drone camera. In one shot of the close-quarters combat, another Ukrainian soldier is heard shouting, “Get into the trench!”However, the Third Assault Brigade disclosed that Russian forces are now increasing their use of aviation, rocket launchers, and long-range artillery.
“The enemy is trying to win lost ground, but the Third Assault Guard is holding line!” the brigade’s msg read.

Ukraine new type of weapon.

This week alone, modified Neptune anti-ship cruise missiles were said to have struck the Conroe Trader fuel carrying ferry near Crimea and a Russian base in the Kursk region, as well as an S-300 air defense system in the Rostov Region.

Ukraine has also carried out attacks using conventional long-range drones in Crimea and Tatarstan, as well as the Olenya airfield some 1,800 kilometers (1,125 miles) away from the border with Ukraine.

Ukraine says it controls 100 Russian settlements after three-week incursion. Ukraine says it now controls 100 Russian settlements & 1,294 sq k/m  of Russian territory (500 square miles)

The incursion into the Kursk region began three weeks ago - last week, President Zelensky said Ukraine controlled more than 1,250 sq km of Russian territory. Ukraine's commander in chief Oleksandr Syrskyi also says Ukraine has captured 594 Russian soldiers

Earlier, Russia launched another wave of strikes on Ukraine, with four people killed, a day after one of its biggest air attacks of the war. Zelensky says Kyiv will "undoubtedly respond to Russia for this and all other attacks"

A lightening offensive into Russian territory - the deepest into Russia since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion in 2022. The surprise move is said to have involved 10,000 elite Ukrainian troops, and took ground quickly. But the pace of the advance has since slowed.

Kyiv's top military commander says Ukrainian troops now control 1,294 sq km (500 sq miles) of Russian territory and 100 settlements in the Kursk region - a larger area than Russia has gained in Ukraine so far this year. He also says the advance is continuing, and around 594 Russian servicemen have been captured there. Ukraine has previously said it has no intention of holding onto the territory and that one motivation for the incursion is to distract Russia's forces away from their own offensive in eastern Ukraine, which is continuing.

Russia has vowed to respond - the nature of that has not been specified, but the last two days have seen an increase in aerial attacks on Ukraine.
