It marks the fifth consecutive day it has recorded more than 80,000 cases in a single day.
Of the 127 people who died, who ranged in age from 5 to 100, 118 had chronic illnesses or other severe diseases while 48 had not been vaccinated with a dose of any COVID-19 vaccine, according to the CECC.
The youngest person to die was a 5-year-old boy, who prior to his COVID-19 infection already had a history of a muscular system disease, Lo said.
He later developed pneumonia and respiratory failure after he was infected with COVID-19, Lo said.
Even though the boy was admitted to hospital, his condition deteriorated and he passed away on May 19, Lo said.

Number of cases is not accurate because they are not testing freely.
Number of deaths is more meaningful! And, it is BAD!

Translated to China's total population of 1.4bln, it will mean China mainland will see an equivalent daily death count of around 7,500.
In a mere 10 days the cumulative death count will equal to the total number of infected when the virus first broke out in Wuhan in early 2020.
So it is not surprising that China refuses to adopt the endemic approach.

this is close to peak daily deaths and china just needs to get over the wave.
for context, daily traffic deaths are 700 per day, and no chance to trend down.

And stopping traffic does not even entail imprisoning 25M or more people for months..
so still make sense? or more someone's big ego?

Taipei, May 27 (CNA) The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported the death of a 12-year-old boy from COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the number of those in Taiwan under the age of 13 to die from the disease to eight.
The CECC also reported that a 5-year-old girl with COVID-19 was currently being treated in an intensive care unit (ICU) for suspected viral encephalitis, or inflammation of the brain, making her the 17th individual under the age of 10 to develop severe symptoms of COVID-19.
The 12-year-old boy whose death was reported Friday was a long-term acute care patient suffering from a nervous system disease caused by genetic mutations. He was already on a ventilator prior to contracting COVID-19, Lo Yi-chun (羅一鈞), deputy head of the CECC's medical response division, said at a daily press briefing.
According to the CECC, the boy, who was not vaccinated, was confirmed as having COVID-19 on May 21 after developing a fever the day before.
The boy passed away on May 23 from pneumonia and respiratory failure linked to COVID-19, Lo said at the CECC's daily news briefing.

One would wonder why the Beijing Health Chief was sacked when the cases were so "low".
Answer:
1. The communists are like that. Just sack people anyhow. Some more ah, Winnie lives in Beijing.
2. There are two record books. One records the actual number of infections and deaths, which is for Winnie to see, while the other is for WHO to see.
Take your pick.

He was sacked because of corruption.
Nothing to do with the pandemic.
