Since private housing and car prices have soared, making ownership of both a distant or even impossible dream, it is not that S'poreans are no longer interested in these 2Cs, but they are no longer affordable to more than 80% of the people. Most are turning to HDB flats not because condos are not appealing, but because the large mortgage is unaffordable. The risk of job loss or pay cuts in later years makes owning private property a risky proposition. Most people now see cars as an unnecessary expense, not because public transportation is so efficient and convenient; 89% of the people simply cannot afford to buy and maintain a car in S'pore.

The S'pore Dream is like your hypersonic KKJ - nothing but the impossible dream.

The red "Mercedes" is the only car 89% of S'poreans will ever be able to afford.

Talking about rental cars, I have seen far too many inexperienced and incompetent drivers behind the wheel of such vehicles. Just give them a wide berth on our roads. The many YouTube videos of crashes involving leased cars is horrifying. In addition to drivers who are "rusty", there are probably some who do not even possess a valid driver's licence.

Some people dream until they kee- siao

Thinking that their fake antiques can fetch millions

and have to show the house full of trash

Why do we need 5 Mayors and 80 PAP Ministers?

"They are now focusing on more meaningful goals, like achieving financial independence and early retirement (FIRE)."

What you posted is commonsense and not new facts in Singapore.

Many Singaporean like myself, my generation, realised it 20 to 30 years ago.
Achieving financial independence and enjoying a peaceful life with a comfortable living standard.

In the past, we purchased condo and cars. However, we are sold them for profit and disposing of any unnecessary products.
The modern lifestyle in Singapore has evolved significantly, particularly with the advancements in infrastructure and service systems.

Achieving financial independence can lead to a fulfilling and empowering existence.
It liberates individuals from the constraints of reporting to bosses, superiors, financial institutions, or clients.

This autonomy allows for self-directed decision-making and the pursuit of personal interests without geographical or temporal limitations, epitomizing genuine freedom. 😊

Myself and many Singaporean friends are enjoying, watching drama in weekdays, cycling at weekends, chatting in foodcourts, travelling together for concert, sport events and sightseeing.
It is common in Singapore and our children are achieving such plan at earlier stages than our generation. With their professional knowledge and incomes..😉

Much better than owning shinny items with loans.
Singapore is not alone in this trend, many developed nations already embarked into it decades ago. Cheers!

Based on my observations, most S'poreans who claim to no longer be interested in the 5Cs make that declaration because it is no longer an attainable goal for them. Sour grapes is used to describe a situation where someone expresses a dislike or disdain for something they cannot obtain. It implies that they are trying to justify their own disappointment or failure by claiming that the thing they wanted was not worth having anyway. LOL!

Can be achieved if we retire in Malaysia or Thailand with a big house and sea view.

These are the 5Cs that are within the reach of S'poreans now:

1. Costly living in the most expensive city in the world
2. Complicated living in a country with so many constraints
3. Constrained by limited wages when everything is so expensive in S'pore
4. Challenging to cope with overpriced housing, cars, goods and services
5. Cutting corners in order to have any savings at all

When our aspirations for a GCB and Ferrari are no longer possible in S'pore, we will only be causing ourselves more grief by continuing to pine for these 2 possessions. Of course we will remove these items from our S'pore Dream wish list.
