China is estimated to be opening up in the 2nd half of the year or next year. There are 2 China medical experts who said the virus wave is coming to an end.

It's an incredible feat that there is NOT a single incremental death in China, ever since the Q2 2020 in China !

Doesn't make sense nothing changes before and after olympic, except emperor and a few officials' face

At first HK tried to make its population take S*n*v*c, but the people there rather skip vaccination than take that vaccine. Curry Lamb still didn't bother to change vaccine and so this is the sad state of affairs in HK. Even had to resort to lotteries. Yet some goondu forummer here still blames the British system for it.

As far as I read, they had choice between the vaccines. For the elderlies,, higher proportion went for Sinovac. But overall many chose to remain unvax.

Initially, more than 60% chose P. As more people suffered side effects or dropped dead, more people move towards S.

Covid: Hong Kong's hospitals overwhelmed amid spike in cases

Hong Kong's healthcare system has been overwhelmed by a huge surge in Covid-19 cases, with infected patients being treated outside crowded hospitals.

The government has admitted it is struggling to contain the fifth wave of infections, fuelled by Omicron. But it has ruled out a city-wide lockdown.

According to the discharge criteria (if still applicable), even those without covid symptoms will be hospitalised.
So naturally the hospitalisation rate will be much higher than Spore where the majority are told to stay home.

(HK) Government updates criteria for releasing confirmed COVID-19 patients from isolation
Quote:(b) For patients who did not develop any COVID-19 compatible symptoms all along:

Meeting the following laboratory criteria: With two clinical specimens of the same type (i.e. respiratory or stool) tested negative for nucleic acid of SARS-CoV-2 by RT-PCR taken at least 24 hours apart (for patients ever with stool specimen(s) tested positive, they should have two negative stool specimens collected 24 hours apart before release from isolation); and 10 days have passed after the first positive RT-PCR for SARS-CoV-2.

Patients fulfilling the discharge criteria will immediately be arranged by point-to-point transfer to designated isolation facilities to undergo 14-day isolation and health monitoring through close-loop management arrangement to ensure that they do not bring the virus into the community. The Government has designated the North Lantau Hospital Hong Kong Infection Control Centre as isolation facility for the time being.

Why would they wanna hospitalise those who are infected but no illness and symptoms?
Aren't that wasting medical resources?

Their infection rate was very low earlier, so hospitalisation will not strain their system.
But with if the number of infected during this post-winter period keeps going up, I guess the "方舱医院" quarantine method will soon be adopted for those without or have very mild symptoms.\.

Wont this unnecessary strain the system and deprive of those who actually need medical attention.

Omicron not that deadly

It has not been confirmed those that are infected are with Delta or Omicron viruses....If they are infected with Delta virus, then it can become deadly. Therefore, those who are infected with Delta virus will need hospitalizing, cos some of them needs to be housed in ICU, and those who are less serious but needs oxygen supplementation will need to be hospitalized in a general ward........
