Before, there was a star celebrity politician leader Sg LeeKY whom prc respected and looked up to.
Now, sg leaders are so so with nothing to impress prc.

Why his father is so respected in China and why his offspring and his ministers wield no respect from China? Simple new 4G ministers anyhow talk forget about the ancient history of tactful-ness. China may even view the new 4G ministers as pro-US even despite they claim they don't take sides. From the time our armored vehicles are detained in HK harbor is a clear sign China buay song us already. They indirectly hint we need to be more "obedient" and tactful in our speeches etc but alas some of our top ppl think they are better and have offended them indirectly.

Spore should be invited as Amy Khor is attending this BRI event.
Guess PM Lee has some reasons for not going there personally, unlike other SE Asian leaders.

BRI to develop more low-carbon projects
Quote:They made the remarks at the Seminar on Building New Vision for the Green Silk Road, which was hosted by the BRI International Green Development Coalition and the Foreign Environmental Cooperation, an affiliate of China's Ministry of Ecology and Environment, in Beijing on Tuesday.

The BRI has great potential to champion environmental protection and climate action, alongside economic, social and cultural development, said Amy Khor, Singapore's senior minister of state for sustainability and the environment.

I feel people are reading too much into this. Most participating countries did not send their PM / President as well, I believe we already have a delegation there so that's good enough.

The Chinese have their own considerations when extending invitation to country leadership and Singapore probably doesn't fit into what they are trying to achieve specifically. As long as we are continuing in our participation in tangible opportunities on the ground, we should be ok.

From Singapore's POV, my assessment is our current foreign policy is de facto pro-China, de jure neutrality, and at the same time try to milk whatever is left out of receding US influence in the region. LHL making a high profile visit to a gathering of mostly not that friendly to US national leaders does not fit our policy and advance our national interest.
They are creating shorter routes around the world. Russia is also creating shorter routes. Thailand is there promoting their countries to the world. We do not create shorter routes.

Look where Jokowi and his wife stand!
Singapore is a developed country.
Other countries are either under developed or still developing.
China welcomed Singapore to have joint venture in China.
Amy Khor is there!
