Advanced attack drones for Ukraine in new deal struck by UK govt and Anduril UK. Ukraine’s armed forces will be backed by more advanced attack drones to tackle Russian aggression in the Black Sea, following a deal struck by the UK government and an Anglo-American defence tech company.
The deal with Anduril UK has been agreed ahead of the Defence Secretary’s meeting with his US counterpart Pete Hegseth at the Pentagon today.
During his visit to Washington D.C., John Healey MP met with staff at Anduril’s facility.
The UK continues to work with allies to put Ukraine in the strongest position for peace as it continues to defend itself against Russian aggression.
Defence Secretary John Healey MP visited Anduril, the firm supplying the drones, in Washington D.C. ahead of a meeting with his US counterpart Pete Hegseth at the Pentagon today.
The deal follows a meeting of world leaders in London last week, when the Prime Minister and allies agreed it was essential that military support continues for Ukraine to put the country in the strongest possible position for peace as it continues to defend itself from Russian aggression.
The new contracts, totalling nearly £30 million and backed by the International Fund for Ukraine, will result in Anduril UK supplying cutting-edge Altius 600m and Altius 700m drones – known as loitering munitions – are designed to monitor an area before striking targets that enter it.
The Defence Secretary visited Anduril yesterday, where he spoke with a number of American and British staff. Founded in California, Anduril continues to invest significantly in UK with a large footprint across the country and plans to rapidly scale, in line with the Govt’s commitment to keeping nation safe while providing highly skilled jobs.
Securing a lasting peace in Ukraine and strengthening bonds between NATO allies set to top the agenda when the Defence Secretary meets with his US counterpart today.
The visit follows Prime Minister Keir Starmer meeting the US President last week, and John Healey MP will hail the unparalleled depth of the UK’s special relationship with the US - the UK’s closest security ally – as both nations continue to collaborate to bolster security and support economic growth.
The meeting follows the recent decision by the UK Government to raise defence spending to 2.5% GDP by April 2027 – the biggest sustained uplift since the Cold War. National security is a foundation of our Plan for Change, and the Prime Minister and Defence Secretary have said that Europe needs to take a greater responsibility for its security, and that defence can be an engine for economic growth.

Ukrainian are working on alternatives with foreign partners. French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu confirmed France continuing to provide its intelligence. “No unique US’ intelligence capabilities. Its possible to replace them,” Mykhailo Samus, military expert director of New Geopolitics Research Network, told Kyiv Independent. ‘We will adapt’ — Days Donald Trump ordered a stop on U.S. intelligence, Ukrainian has reported little effect from decision on front. Is likely to have a higher toll on Ukrainian cities & infrastructure. U.S. stopped sharing intelligence with Ukraine on March 5, & freezing all military assistance to pressure Kyiv. U.S. Trump also helping Putin by stopping aerospace company Maxar Technologies has also reportedly restricted Ukraine's access to its satellite imagery,
Commanders fighting across front said that the intelligence cutoff has little to no effect on their battlefield operations. At the tactical level, the Ukrainian army has a range of means to get its own intelligence, mostly from drone surveillance. Other sources include Ukrainian-made situational awareness system Delta, praised by NATO after testing in 2024, and regular reconnaissance op.
“Ukraine frontline can cope without intelligence from U.S. partners,” said Yurii Fedorenko, units commander of elite unmanned systems regiment “Achilles” fighting in Kharkiv said. “Ukraine has managed to develop it production of intelligence tools allowing us to cover a certain operational depth,” Fedorenko said. “But in war, its important to control enemy at all stages, from production to logistics to areas of concentration, and then to the front line,” he added.
Ukraine continue to Strikes deep into Russia and occupied territories Since early 2024 till now, Ukraine has regularly conducted drone strikes deep within Russia and it territories, hitting military strategic targets such as oil refineries
Strikes have helped to slow down Russia’s frontline logistics & reduce Moscow's gas and oil exports that fuel its war effort. The U.S. intelligence cutoff is unlikely to threaten the planning of those op by restricting Ukraine’s access to satellite images, as “Ukraine has its own satellites,” Samus said. “We still have good intel from our own means.”

Determined not to let the enemy near the town, the Ukrainians even resorted to an extraordinary solution, as soldiers used beehives as a weapon to clear a Russian hideout after running out of grenades.
Securing Pischane is essential for Ukraine’s defensive efforts around Pokrovsk. If the Ukrainians manage to fully consolidate their control over the settlement, it will significantly strengthen their defensive perimeter, making it much harder for Russian forces to advance toward Pokrovsk through the network of smaller settlements. Additionally, holding Pischane would provide Ukrainian forces with a launching point for future offensives against Shevchenko and Novotroitske, similar to their recent successful operations in the region.
To achieve their objective, Ukrainian forces have implemented a two-phase approach. First, they are maintaining a strong all-round defense of their already secured positions in Pischane. Second, they are working to consolidate their control, gradually eliminating Russians attempting to infiltrate the settlement and fortifying their presence to ensure long-term stability.

Here, as the situation in the northern part of the Kursk salient became increasingly dangerous, the Ukrainians launched several operations to ensure their controlled withdrawal. By targeting Russian defensive and offensive capabilities, and command posts and conducting daring raids against the advancing enemy, Ukrainian troops ruined the Russian plans of penetrating the line. The Ukrainian withdrawal was a calculated response to deteriorating battlefield conditions. Russian forces had advanced to key positions, gaining fire control over Ukrainian supply routes and any further delay would have risked encirclement. Worsening the situation, the suspension of U.S. intelligence sharing left Ukrainian forces without real-time insight into Russian troop movements. Previously, live intelligence feeds had enabled Ukrainian commanders to preempt enemy advances, but now they had to rely solely on their own reconnaissance.
Withdrawing under fire is one of the most complex operations in warfare, requiring precise coordination, disciplined execution, and a strong rear guard to hold off the enemy while the main force disengages. The Ukrainian commanders knew that if Russians launched a well-coordinated push during the withdrawal, they could potentially exploit a weak point and overrun a large part of the Ukrainian contingent in Kursk.
To prevent this, the Ukrainians created a plan with several key steps: strikes on Russian command posts to saw chaos, against Russian artillery to reduce fire support, and a series of disruptive hit-and-run raids supplemented by drone operations to delay the Russian advance and allowing for a controlled withdrawal.
Ukrainian destroyed a Russian Pantsir-S1 air defense system to clear the skies & attack Russian command posts, aimed to sabotage command structure & prevent a coordinated assault. Geolocated footage shows use of air strike against military facility near Yelyzavetivka has disrupted Russian coordination, with Russians losing. This op was possible due to heroic cover by Ukrainian rear guard provided.
Overall, despite operating under challenging conditions, including loss of U.S. intelligence sharing, Ukrainian forces successfully withdrew from northern part of Kursk salient. By effectively disrupting Russian command structures, targeting artillery, & employing several delaying operations, they ensured their retreat was a carefully managed maneuver. Now positioned in more defensible locations, Ukrainian forces are better prepared for the next phase of the battle, once again demonstrated their ability to adapt against outmaneuver numerically superior enemy.

Human rights activists in South Korea and overseas on Tuesday urged Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to send North Korean prisoners of war (POW) to the South, saying it would not only be the right thing to do but would also help Ukraine's war efforts against Russia.
In an open letter sent to the Ukrainian Embassy in Seoul, the Transitional Justice Working Group and eight other organizations expressed respect for Ukrainians' fight for democracy and freedom, while urging their leader to honor the North Koreans' desire for freedom and survival.
"We urge Ukraine to respect the free will of North Korean prisoners of war to go to South Korea. This will not only be the right thing to do for Ukraine, but it may also help Ukraine's war efforts in the long term by inducing more North Korean soldiers to surrender or defect," the groups said.
After capturing two North Korean soldiers in Russia's Kursk region in January, Zelenskyy said he was ready to hand them over to Pyongyang in exchange for the return of Ukrainians held in Russia, under Article 109 of the Geneva Convention relative to the treatment of POWs.

With every new blind spot, Ukrainian drones and missiles strike deeper into Russian territory, hitting high-value targets that were once thought untouchable. Ukrainians published first-ever video of Ukrainian naval drone launching multiple FPV kamikaze drones against Russian targets from off the coastline. Drones successfully tracked destroyed a Russian Strela-10 & an Osa short-range air defense system while were in transit unable to counter strikes.
