Vladimir Putin is acutely aware of the fact that his regime is now in grave danger, with all the world’s powers either against it – like the U.S. and EU – or unwilling to explicitly ally themselves with Moscow – such as India and China.

Of course, it is only Putin’s regime that is in danger. Russia will survive. It’s huge. It spreads across 11 time zones. Trying to destroy it would be a fool’s errand, and neither Ukraine nor NATO has any intention of doing so.

But Putin’s own power over Russia, his “Russian world” ideology, and the fantasy of a Great Russia regaining its erstwhile influence over much of Europe and Asia are rehearsing their last gasps.
A proposal to divert Roman Abramovich’s £2.34 billion Chelsea sale fund to Israel rather than Ukraine was discussed after the Hamas terrorist attack, Telegraph Sport can reveal.

The UK is understood to have turned down the high-level suggestion, with ministers believing it had been a move by the sanctioned oligarch to avoid condemnation in Russia.

Abramovich first promised proceeds for “all Ukraine war victims” after putting Chelsea up for sale on March 2 last year, 8-days before facing sanctions over alleged links to Vladimir Putin.

Not because Russia is losing the war but because the West has finally realized that Ukraine could lose the war.

A realistic timeline for the operational deployment of the F-16 fighters in Ukraine could easily stretch to mid-2024, if not later. By then, to quote William Shakespeare in Macbeth, the hurly-burly may well be done, and the battle may well be lost and won.
Explosions are periodically reported in the occupied cities of Melitopol and Tokmak. US has provided over $40 billion in security aid to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion and pledged to back Kyiv for as long as necessary. But opposition from hardline Republicans has thrown into question the future of this assistance. “I’m confident US will continue to provide support because it is in the security interest of the United States to do so and it’s also in line with what we have agreed,” Stoltenberg said at a meeting of NATO.

More jobs for American jobs....A total estimate of the jobs created has not been made public, but a few examples are illustrative of the economic boon in U.S.'s military aid for Ukraine has created at home.

Lockheed Martin, which produces High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) prized by Ukraine received a contract from Pentagon worth nearly $500 million in late 2022 to keep manufacturing the systems. Local officials in Camden, Arkansas, Lockheed's factories saw a significant economic opportunity for the town. State's Chamber of Commerce estimated as many as 1,000 new jobs created as result of new contracts from Lockheed and other defense companies operating in Ouachita County, of which Camden is the county seat defense industry has grown, it helped revitalize which had been economically stagnating since other industries left. It was not the first time Camden saw growth from defense jobs- some 25,000 workers came to the town after a naval plant was opened there in 1944.

"Retail jobs follow manufacturing jobs, so the more manufacturing jobs that you have in a community, (the more) retail will soon follow," said Ouachita Partnership for Economic Development's executive director, James Lee Silliman. The Camden story is not an isolated event– new contracts for domestic defense production have led creation of new factories and expansion of existing ones, all circulating money back into the U.S. economy.

A more striking example is in Mesquite, Texas. Unlike Camden, there was no previous defense industry until defense contractor General Dynamics announced opening of a new factory in early 2024 to produce 155mm shells... Clapping

Ukrainian electronic-warfare drone-operators have taken control of sky over Krynky—first by grounding Russia’s drones, and then filling the air with Ukraine’s drones. A famous Ukrainian drone commander has revealed one of the ways his comrades target their Russian counterparts in Kherson: by intercepting Russian drones’ video feeds and using them to identify Russian drone bases. Then relaying the bases’ coordinates to the 36th Brigade’s artillery for precision strikes.

Ukrainian commander Robert Brovdi detailed one example of this kill-chain in a video that circulated online this week.

Ukraine said it for 1st time, it blew up railway in eastern Russia connection deep inside Russia, successive explosions are said to happened on trains running through a tunnel and then on a bridge in Russia's far east. Russia reportedly begun inquiry into "criminal case, Puton said is a terrorism" after the attacks on Baikal Amur line running to the border with China.

Extent of the damage has not been verified by the BBC.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-67593041
After the first incident in the Severomuysky tunnel, on Wednesday evening, Russian railway officials said that crew had noticed smoke in a fuel tank and the train was stopped.

At 15km, Severnomuysky is the longest railway tunnel in Russia and lies in the region of Buryatia, north of Mongolia. Rotfl

Senior Ukrainian official told the BBC that the freight train had in fact exploded in the tunnel.
The Russians then fell into the "trap" - claimed the official - of using an alternative bridge route.

This is exactly what the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) was counting on," said the official.
"During passage the train on this 35m-high bridge, explosive devices planted in went off."
2nd explosion has not been corroborated elsewhere, the Russian telegram channel Baza has reported that another train was later blown up in the same area, incidents appear to have happened on Wednesday and Thursday, with no known casualties. According to reports, the explosions have caused damage to fuel tanks and rail lines.

There's been no official or public comment from the Russian govt. Undecided

This footage – reportedly filmed near Avdiivka – shows one man emerging from a dugout with his hands above his head before lying face down on the ground. A few feet from the entrance, several Russian soldiers crouch down pointing their guns. A few moments later a second Ukrainian soldier emerges. As he struggles out, the Russian soldiers open fire.

Ukrainian blogger Deep State posted footage online and it was quickly picked up by others.
While the footage has not been independently verified, it would not be the first example of Russian troops killing unarmed Ukrainian soldiers.

In April video emerged of Russian troops beheading a Ukrainian soldier. And in what became in iconic moment in Ukrainian resistance, an unarmed Ukrainian POW whose final words “Glory to Ukraine” were captured in a video, was gunned down in March. Oleksandr Matsievskyi’s picture and last words – “Slava Ukraini” in Ukrainian – became the latest. A symbol and rallying call of the country’s fierce resistance in the face of Moscow’s ongoing aggression.

Russia-Ukraine war live: Ukraine launches inquiry into ‘execution’ of captured soldiers – as it happened. Ukraine says Russian troops committed war crime as video appears to show two men surrendering before being shot.

Here is a summary of today's events so far:
Ukraine said at least two people – a woman and a 78-year-old man - were killed and four injured by Russian shelling in the Kherson region on Sunday, while air defences downed 10 Russian drones overnight. Ukraine and Poland will open an additional border crossing for empty trucks on Monday in order to open up a much-needed route for Kyiv, with some crossings blocked by weeks of protests by Polish drivers, Ukrainian authorities said on Sunday.

Ukraine launched an inquiry on Sunday into what it said was an “execution” by Russian forces of two unarmed Ukrainian soldiers who had signalled their intention to surrender.

For nearly two months, Russia has been trying to seize Avdiivka, an industrial town near Donetsk that has become one of the most contended points on the front line. Ukrainian town of Avdiivka, under constant Russian fire, has seen fewer ground attacks in the past 24 hours due to heavy Russian losses and harsh weather, the mayor said on Sunday.

Russian soldiers now on east, north and south of the town, now left largely in ruins. It is nearly surrounded but is still served by tarmac rd. "Over past 24 hours, number of (ground) attacks has decreased," Vitaliy Barabash, the head of the city's military administration, told Ukrainian broadcaster Freedom.

He said this was due to 3-factors -- difficult "weather conditions", "large losses in both (Russian) and manpower",fact is Russian army was "running out of steam". Ukraine says its soldiers are holding firm and repelling attacks.

Ukraine’s original counteroffensive plan abandoned within four days

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi had to abandon the original plan for the summer counteroffensive within four days of the operation, the Washington Post reported on Dec. 4, citing senior officials familiar with the matter.

According to report, Ukrainian troops intended to reach the town of Velyka Novosilka in Zaporizhzhya within first 24 hours, subsequently recapturing Melitopol to sever Russian supply routes. However, the AFU were "stunned" by the density of the minefields in the south. “By day four, Gen. Valery Zaluzhnyi, Ukraine’s top commander, had seen enough,” “Incinerated Western military hardware — American Bradleys, German Leopard tanks, mine-sweeping vehicles — littered the battlefield. The numbers of dead and wounded sapped morale.”

Zaluzhnyi ordered his troops to halt the assault. Instead of attempting to break through the Russian defense with a concentrated mechanized attack and artillery support as advised by his U.S. counterparts, Zaluzhnyi decided that Ukrainian soldiers would move in small groups of about 10 infantrymen on foot. This approach was meant to save more equipment and lives but made the advance much slower.

The failed vote highlighted waning support in the United States for continuing to fund Ukraine’s war effort at a perilous time in the conflict, with Kyiv’s counteroffensive failing to meet its objectives and Russia’s forces on the offensive. While the bill faltered over an unrelated immigration policy dispute, the resistance it has met in Congress reflects a dwindling appetite among Republicans for backing Ukraine, as polls show that Americans are losing interest in providing financial assistance.

In the Senate, the vote to move forward on the bill was 49 to 51, short of the 60-vote threshold needed to advance.

Republicans block Ukraine funding over US-Mexico border despite Biden pleas. The Kremlin has celebrated the gridlock, saying it hopes US lawmakers will keep axing Biden’s aid plan.

Republican senators in the US have blocked $106bn in new funding for Ukraine and Israel, rejecting appeals from President Joe Biden amid anger over exclusion of immigration reforms they demanded as part of the package.

Biden had earlier warned of dire consequences for Kyiv – and a “gift” to Russia’s Vladimir Putin – if Congress failed to pass the measure, which includes about $61bn to help Ukraine keep up pressure on Russia during the freezing winter months, as well as help for Israel and Gaza.

“They’re willing to literally kneecap Ukraine on the battlefield and damage our national security in the process,” Biden said.

But these deep-strike raids could become rarer as foreign aid to Ukraine diminishes. When Ukrainian forces broke through Russian lines in southern Ukraine in late 2022 and raced toward the Dnipro River, the Russians scrambled to relocate their precious attack helicopters.
