It would not be reasonable to says  for Putin. He will try to destroy those ill F-16 fighter just b'cos US bring those aircraft without a system base available into Ukraine to fly them in a combat status. or even to park them at an any safe airfield base from which they couldn’t quickly disperse, Putin said the airbase will became under his imminent Russian attacks soon.

Ukraine is not losing but holding its own. The situation on the front line
Has to tried to add dose of common sense to restrain much of the doom &gloom has infected reporting of the war in Ukraine. We had been hearing quite dramatic stories of Russian breakthroughs and Ukrainian forces seemingly on the brink of collapse. (A lot seems to come from those want Russian to perform well, either to reinforce early analysis or b'cos they would like to see a deal forced on Ukraine to allow Putin to declare a victory.)

Reality is far less drama, Russian advances have been limited, no sign of an ability to exploit, assuming ammunition gets to Ukraine in the numbers promised, Russians have difficulty advancing in future, not less. One can try show what has changed (or really not changed) in battle line over week or talk about what might actually be most important strategic story of last 4-mths (which is not what you think).

Russia/Ukraine fight, race against each other with Russia trying to take territory b4 US started flowing into Ukraine (while Ukrainians were having to fight with major shortage of supplies). Ukraine, on one hand, was trying access to those supplies to get them to the front. Now, how aid actually reached front easy to know – it might not be much as of yet. However US aid has reached front in bulk, the Russian advances have slowed down for last few days hardly progressed at all.

May 2 (Thurs), Russian forces made a small advances & crucially of the easiest kind no making or attempt to exploit their breakthrough into Ocheretyne, but actually just tried to consolidate their tiny advance. They either lacked the ability or will to try exploitation on advance. (Thurs) has no advance of any (noted), the situation at Chasiv Yar witnessed even less change. So, we has seen in last week no successful attempt, no assumed a powerful improving Russian army making a successful advance on a Ukrainian army which was supposedly in dire straits.

Why is this like that?..Well, it’s probably not b'cos Ukrainian Army is in great shape. They the army is presently underarmed almost under
manned & exhausted, they probably have to make some further small retreats in near future. What it’s down to a combination of 3-factors, continuing advantage of defensive firepower, continual overrating of Russian offensive capacity, & a temporary panic about Ukrainian army which had some evidence – but was significantly overblown.

All stories about Russians being on brink of great success. For instance, all the stories Russians supposedly being on the brink of great success leave out a hard-headed reckoning of state of Russian Army, this latter force has now been built up & wiped out twice since Feb. 24, 2022. Its generating lots of soldiers, obviously not train them to high standard, so losing these new soldiers at a, see horrific clip.

The most up-to-date UK intelligence estimates, for instance, have the Russians losing (assumed killed, missing, seriously wounded) over 465,000 soldiers since the full-scale invasion. These are staggering losses, which will have a serious effect on the new troops being generated.

I thought I would try and show what has changed (or really not changed) in the battle line over the last week and then talk about what might actually be the most important strategic story of the last four months (which is not what you think).

Russia and Ukraine were engaging in a race against each other. Russia was trying to take territory before US started flowing into Ukraine (while the Ukrainians were having to fight with a major shortage of supplies). Ukraine, on the other hand, was racing to try and get access to those supplies and get them to the front.

Now, how much aid has actually reached the front is not easy to know – it might not be much as of yet. However, whether US aid has reached the front in bulk or not, the Russian advances have slowed and for the last few days hardly progressed at all.

For the sake of democracy and society, we need journalists that can keep holding power to account and unveil injustices – especially in times of crisis.
By Thursday May 2, the Russian forces had made very small advances – and crucially of the easiest kind. They made no attempt to exploit their supposed breakthrough into Ocheretyne, but actually just tried to consolidate the tiny advance. They certainly either lacked the ability to will to try an exploitation type of advance.

Since Thursday there has been no advance of any note. The situation at Chasiv Yar has witnessed even less change.

So, what we have seen in the last week is no successful attempt by the assumed to be powerful and improving Russian army to make a successful advance against a Ukrainian army which was supposedly in dire straits.

Why is this?

Well, it’s probably not because the Ukrainian Army is in great shape. The Ukrainian army is presently underarmed and almost certainly undermanned and exhausted. It will probably have to make some further small retreats in the future. What it’s down to is a combination of three factors. The continuing advantage of defensive firepower, the continual overrating of Russian offensive capacity, and a temporary panic about the Ukrainian army which had some evidence – but was significantly overblown.

All the stories about the Russians supposedly being on the brink of great success leave out a hard-headed reckoning of the state of the Russian Army.

Ukraine has somethings really is indecisive, only made very small advances for large losses. And on Russian losses really have been large too. We have UK intelligence figure above, which covers the whole war, but it does seem that Russian losses are trending upwards. In taking Avdiivka alone, Russian casualties were estimated at 17,000 after a few months of fighting. Certainly figures for mths now have had the Russians losing 1,000 a day on average – sometimes more for weeks at a time.

If headlines of the last few mths were regularly: “Russians Advance One to few K/m With Heavy Losses in Soldiers and Vehicles,” war seem very different. And this brings out the other real story. Even a weakened Ukraine without ammunition can take a terrible toll on the attacker. Maybe, just maybe, people will realize the true story of the last few months is that attacking, even with major advantages, is a mugs game. It will be extremely expensive and destructive for the attacking force, and it will show little strategic benefit.

This has now been seen for well over year, (since Bakhmut) it real story of the war for now. The side that learns it, and does its best to establish ranged dominance, will be the side that comes out on top in the end.

Ukraine were smart, (& very much hope that it better work) will double down on defensive strategy in 2024. Getter Russians attack, attack, attack. Greet them with now better supplied forces, hopefully in better entrenchments.

At the same time, work on winning the ranged war to roll up the Russian Armed forces from the rear. It’s actually been the story of much of modern war – but it’s one people need to hear again and again. Ukraine has much to do it needs to conscript wisely, it needs fortify lines, needs to only attack selectively when it can, & needs to develop & be given as much ranged capacity as possible. But story of last few months confirms that this is the way to win the war.

Ukrainian security service (SBU) says it has foiled a Russian plot to assassinate President Volodymyr Zelensky and other high-ranking Ukrainian officials.

Two Ukrainian govt protection unit colonels have been arrested. The SBU said they were part of a network of agents belonging to the Russian state security service (FSB).

They had reportedly been searching for willing "executors" among Mr Zelensky's bodyguards to kidnap and kill him.

Ever since Russian paratroopers attempted to land in Kyiv and assassinate President Zelensky in the early hours and days of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, plots to assassinate him have been commonplace.

Alleged plot stands out from the rest. It involves serving colonels, whose job it was to keep officials and institutions safe, allegedly hired as moles.

Other targets included military intelligence head Kyrylo Budanov and SBU chief Vasyl Malyuk, the agency added.

The group had reportedly planned to kill Mr Budanov before Orthodox Easter, which this year fell on 5 May.

According to the SBU, the plotters had aimed to use a mole to get information about his location, which they would then have attacked with rockets, drones and anti-tank grenades.

Last month, a Polish man was arrested and charged with planning to co-operate with Russian intelligence services to aid a possible assassination of Mr Zelensky.

At the weekend Ukraine's president appeared on the Russian interior ministry's wanted list on unspecified charges.

The foreign ministry in Kyiv condemned the move as showing "the desperation of the Russian state machine and propaganda", and pointed out that the International Criminal Court had issued a warrant for Vladimir Putin's arrest.

Plot to Assassinate Zelensky Foiled, HUR and SBU Spy Chiefs Also Targeted. The SBU reports that Russia’s FSB aimed to identify military personnel serving as the President’s security detail who could seize him and then execute him.

Two colonels from Ukraine’s Administration of State Guard (UDO) are accused of sharing classified information with Russian agents allegedly planning to assassinate President Volodymyr Zelensky, Chief of Ukraine’s Military Intelligence (HUR) Kyrylo Budanov, and Head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Vasyl Malyuk.

Today the SBU reported that the Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) had aimed to identify military personnel close to the President’s security detail who could seize him and then execute him.

Plot included eliminating HUR chief Kyrylo Budanov before Easter. Ukrainian intelligence revealed that the enemy’s plan was to recruit an agent who would surveil the protected individuals and relay information to the FSB.

FSB then planned to launch a missile strike on target’s residence, followed by a drone attack on those remaining. Subsequently, a second missile strike was intended to destroy evidence of the drone’s use.

Ukrainian maritime drone  look like resembles Soviet R-73 air-to-air missile, according Militarny defense issues website.
The R-73 is a short-range air-to-air missile, also can be launched from ground-based installations. It does not require radar or other systems to guide it, and has its own thermal homing head, which wide field of view of up to 75 degrees.

Germany will buy three HIMARS multiple rocket launchers for Ukraine, the country's defense minister announced on May 9.

Speaking during a trip to Washington, Boris Pistorius said they would be purchased from U.S. and handed over to Kyiv. "They will come from US armed forces and will be paid for by us," he told reporters.

HIMARS, whose prowess became a popular motif of internet memes, was a game-changer for Ukraine when it first arrived in the summer of 2022, allowing Kyiv to target Russian forces behind front lines far more accurately than they had previously.

Weapons system – full name is M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System – is a multiple rocket launcher system mounted to a 6x6 FMTV truck chassis, providing devastating firepower launched from a highly mobile platform.

Its rockets are radar-guided, with a range of around 70 kilometers (over 40 miles). When combined with high mobility, it is the ideal "shoot and scoot" system to target enemy weapons dumps and command posts.

HIMARS success stories are too numerous to count, but most recently, they were used against a military training ground in occupied areas of Donetsk Oblast where Russian troops were stationed, killing at least 60. BBC reported on Feb. 21.
